We’re going to examine Monday’s NFC East clash between the Giants and Eagles. Go inside to read our revealing betting preview article that concludes with a pick on the total.

Monday Night NFL East Clash
The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Giants square off in a NFL East Divisional battle on Monday night. According to the current (10/17) NFL betting odds at Heritage, Philadelphia is a 5.5 point favorite, and the posted total is 49.5. The Eagles won and covered the two meetings between these teams last season. The last five games played in Philadelphia between these NFC East rivals have all gone under the total, and there was a combined average of only 34.8 points scored per contest.

Poor Rush Offenses versus Stellar Run Defenses
The Giants enter this week as #2 against the run, and are allowing just 80.6 yards per game. They’re also tops in the NFL allowing just 3.5 yards per rushing attempt. Unfortunately, they’re the #26 rushing offense in the NFL, averaging a mere 91.2 yards per game.

The Eagles are #11 against the run, allowing 97.6 yards per game, and opponents are averaging only 3.6 yards per attempt. Despite having a stable of running backs that includes DeMarco Murray, Ryan Mathews, and Darren Sproles, they’ve struggled running the football with any type of consistency. They’re averaging just 93.2 yards per game on the ground, and that number is a bit askew due to their 184 yards last Sunday against a poor New Orleans Saints front seven.

NFL Totals Betting Angle
Any road team (Giants) with a .800 or less winning percentage in a divisional game, the total is 49.5 or more, and they scored 24 points or more in their previous game, versus an opponent (Eagles) with a winning percentage of .777 or less, resulted in that road team going 26-3 (89.7%) under the total since 1983.

Final Analysis
Philadelphia has gone 4-1 under the total this season, and the lone exception came last week against New Orleans. Like I alluded to earlier, they had their way offensively in that game due to amassing 184 yards rushing against a porous Saints defense. They’ll be facing a whole different animal on Monday against a solid Giants front seven.

For whatever reason, the Giants have struggled offensively the last three seasons in their games at Philadelphia.

I like this game to play on the low side of the number for one of my NFL picks this week.
