I have found a few of tonight's games that I think will be a valuable addition to your NFL Picks.
Even though the starters for the Saints won't be in this game, the backups at the quarterback position have enough to get the Saints the cover in this game. Luke McCown and Ryan Griffin both played well in Week 3 of the preseason coming in after Drew Brees. The two combined for 18/27 passing with 204 yards and 3 touchdowns.
The Dolphins have not looked great this preseason on offense, and with their backups in the game now, I doubt it will magically get better. I think this will be a lower scoring and closer game, and that almost always favors the underdogs in the NFL Odds. I think the backups for the Saints will have enough to get the job done tonight, so take the points with New Orleans.
My Pick: Saints +6
The NFL Odds for this game favor the Titans on the road at -4, but I am more focused on the total in this game, which is set at 39 points. This is one of the higher totals of Week 4, and while normally totals fall under in the last week of exhibition games, I have a gut feeling this might be a higher scoring affair.
Both backup quarterbacks in this game were starters just last year in the NFL. That’s a luxury not afforded to many NFL teams in the final week of the preseason. Ryan Fitzpatrick and Matt Cassel will be able to shred the backup defenses in this game. Both starting defenses haven’t looked that great, so what makes you think the 2nd and 3rd string guys will be able to stop guys with more starting experience than the guys they are backing up. The Titans scored 27 points last week, and both teams have been giving up tons of points this preseason, so add the ‘Over’ to your sports picks.
My Pick: ‘Over’ 39
The battle of Texas is one of my best bets tonight, and with the line climbing up, there is even more value on Dallas than there was before tonight. Gary Kubiak is a great preseason coach, but his wins all come in the first half of the preseason, not the second. Kubiak’s Texans are 14-4 SU in Weeks 1 and 2 of the preseason, but after their loss last week, in Weeks 3 and 4 they are only 6-11 SU.
Dallas looked nice last week in their dress rehearsal, and at home, even with their backups in the game, I think they can cover tonight. Kyle Orton should be able to throw all over the backups from the Texans, and what looks like a lower scoring game to begin with should favor the underdog Cowboys at home. Preseason home underdogs are normally a pretty good bet just like the regular season, so even though the starters aren’t playing, I’m taking the points with Dallas.
My Pick: Cowboys +5
