Friday brings another slate of preseason Week 1 in the NFL, and like yesterday there should be some value in these games. Let’s take a look at three of my best bets for Friday’s NFL Odds.

NFL Betting: Guide to Picking Preseason Winners

Patriots vs. Eagles

Word out of the Patriots and Eagles camp recently is that Tom Brady came to the Eagles camp to practice against their secondary. However it seemed like it was barely practice for Brady, and a complete disaster for the Eagles. Brady likely won’t play much more than one or two series in this game, but that may be how bad this secondary is going to be, this season and in this game.

Any time the NFL Odds have the Patriots as underdogs in the preseason, I think we have to jump on it. The underdog has already been successful in recent preseasons, and Bill Belichick has gone 10-4 SU in Week 1 of the preseason in his career. With the Eagles having a quarterback battle going on, I think they will be more focused on evaluation rather than winning, even though it is Chip Kelly’s first game in the NFL. The Eagles are overvalued here, and even though this may be a trap, all the word out of Eagles camp has been as bad as New England. I’ll take the points with the more established coach and team.

My Pick: Patriots +3

Cardinals vs. Packers

I think the Cards may be a sneaky team this season, and it starts in the preseason. With new coach Bruce Arians installed, a new quarterback, running back and all around coaching staff, this is a nice game to gauge where they’re at. The Packers were heavier favorites in this game, but betting on the early line of Cardinals +4 moved the spread down to +3 in the NFL Odds. I think we need to follow the movement.

The Packers have nothing to prove by unveiling too much of their high powered offense in Week 1 of the preseason. The Packers are much more focused on their running back battle, and even though Eddie Lacy will likely not play in this game, they need to evaluate Jonathon Franklin, and hype up Alex Green for trade value. Mike McCarthy is only 2-5 SU in Week 1 of the preseason in his career, and considering they have nothing to gain by winning this game, I am going with the underdog who could gain something by getting a win; confidence. Arians will have Carson Palmer or whoever is in the game throwing the ball.

My Pick: Cardinals +4

Bears vs. Panthers

With this game, the spread means nothing to me. However the NFL Odds for the total in this game are interesting. At only 33 ½ points at Bookmaker, the best NFL betting value lies with a bet on the 'Over'.

New coach, Marc Trestman is going to want to test his new offense early and often, and even though the Bears won’t risk injury to any of their main offensive weapons, you can bet no matter who is in the game, the ball is getting thrown.

On the other side, the Panthers are also under new direction with new offensive coordinator, Mike Shula. Shula will want to also test his new offense a bit more, which could mean either extra run for the starters, and some moving of the ball.

Even though these defenses are both very good, they are also established. Even though the Bears have new leadership and a new scheme, they are also not that healthy on defense. With all things considered, and on top of the total being very low for these two situations, I think a play on the ‘Over,’ is the best way to go.

 My Pick: ‘Over’ 33 ½
