This is a highly contested Super Bowl, you’re not going to get a lot of massive line movement, but let’s check this out for the bettors that still haven’t made up their minds on which side they’ll be on.

Opening Odds

In most sportsbooks, the San Francisco 49’ers opened up as a 4 point betting favorite with the total at 48.5. We look for the SBR rated A+ betting shops for the references. Bookmaker Sportsbook had the 49’ers opening up as a 5 point Superbowl odds favorite.

A Totals Drop

During the week, the line has been teetering around anywhere from 3.5-4 points. This means that there are equal backers on each side.

The one thing that was very noticeable and was pointed out in an interview with SBR’s Peter Loshak was the small drop in the total. Most shops had the total starting out at 49 point and the consensus currently lists the total at 47.5.

Although Mr. Loshak liked the OVER,  the consensus is that most people along with his guest during his interview, think that this will be a low scoring Super Bowl. This can partially be attributed to the Ravens defense and Colin Kaepernick’s inexperience as mentioned in that interview. We could see a lot of Frank Gore and Ray Rice and Pierce on the ground, and this could be a fast moving Super Bowl, meaning less points.

I tend to agree with the consensus. As I mentioned in my Super MVP article, I expect Colin Kaepernick to have some trouble in this Super Bowl. People are overestimating the 49’ers in this spot. After all, Kaepernick has started just 10 NFL games! He’s lucky to be here after his tussle with Atlanta and Joe Flacco is battle-tested. It doesn’t matter if Ray Rice runs it up the gut or Anquan Boldin or Dennis Pitta are catching Flacco bombs; Joe Flacco will adjust to the 49’ers defense and he carries a great edge in experience in this spot.

That said, both of these teams are known for their tough defenses and the drop in the total concerning line movement is totally understandable while bettors are just about 50-50 with the side, which is why the line hasn’t moved much.

Wager Wisely

This game could go either way according to opinions. I happen to like the experienced Ravens with a confident quarterback in Joe Flacco. 3.5-4 points are fine for me (staying above 3) and the total is screaming UNDER 47.5 as indicated by the line movement.
