Super Bowl XLVII Picks: Spread Predictions
The Super Bowl Odds opened with the 49ers as 3.5-point favorites and that number has stayed pretty much the same. You can however find a line of four if you look around, and that's a lot of difference in value if you believe the Ravens to be the right side.
There's been a lot of build-up for this game, and rightly so. There's a lot of terrific storylines going on here, but only one winner will be crowned come Sunday night.
A lot of the attention in the Baltimore camp has been on Ray Lewis and his pending retirement, but we have to give credit where credit's due. Joe Flacco has been truly remarkable once again in the playoffs, throwing for nine touchdowns (without a pick) in wins over Indianapolis, Denver and New England.
Use our Super Bowl Player Prop Betting Picks to find out how Flacco can add to your profits on Sunday.
Quite rightly, Flacco is sure to be receiving a fat paycheck when this season is said and done. He's also got quite a number of weapons around him – Ray Rice and Bernard Pierce have been running well and Anquan Boldin, Torrey Smith, Dennis Pitta and even Jacoby Jones have all made their presence felt in the postseason so far.
San Francisco has found a gem in Colin Kaepernick, but the amount of pressure on a stage like this can be overwhelming. Baltimore has one of the most physical and opportunistic defenses in the NFL as well, so he has to be picture perfect with his decision-making.
Something special is in the air right now for the Baltimore Ravens and sometimes an overload of emotion is all you need. They've gone on a magnificent run, beating what many thought to be the two best teams in the AFC, and now only the 49ers stand in the way. We think Flacco will be cool under pressure once more – the 49ers, as we've seen, can be beaten through the air – as he leads Baltimore to an unlikely Super Bowl victory.
Pick: Baltimore Ravens +4
Super Bowl XLVII Picks: Total Predictions
The O/U for Sunday is hovering around the 47-point mark. So far, during the regular season and playoffs, the OVER has gone 11-6-1 in games involving San Francisco and 10-9 in those featuring Baltimore.
However, we are not looking that way with our Super Bowl picks, as we feel that this game will revolve around ultra-physical defense and establishing the run.
Both teams have incredibly reliable running backs who love toting the rock as much as possible. Ray Rice and Frank Gore seem to only get better and better as the game wears on, and you have to think the two Harbaughs will want to get the running game clicking early on.
That doesn't mean chances won't be taken. There are bound to be wrinkles here and there, and with deep threats like Smith, Jones and Moss on the field, we're sure to get some long balls thrown by both Flacco and Kaepernick.
But, all in all, we expect much more of a focus on the ground attack and the possession receivers like Boldin and Michael Crabtree. Both of those wideouts have been extremely reliable safety valves for the two quarterbacks throughout the regular season and playoffs. Don't expect anything different on Sunday.
The sheer number of defensive playmakers out on that field is pretty startling as well. On San Francisco's side, you've got Justin Smith, Aldon Smith and Patrick Willis, just to name a few, and the Ravens have the likes of Ray Lewis, Terrell Suggs, Ed Reed, Haloti Ngata and Bernard Pollard. Enough said.
So while Super Bowls tend to bring the best out of offenses, we are liking the look of the UNDER more than anything this weekend. We're on the lookout for a lot of touches for Rice and Gore and sound defensive performances across the board.
Pick: UNDER 47.5
– Parlay Ravens +4 and UNDER 47.5 –
