Rex Ryan’s New Yorks Jets return home for this Sunday’s NFL betting card, hosting the winless Pittsburgh Steelers. Which team can pull ahead in Week 6 and make some cash for our football picks?

The New York Jets came away with a 30-28 victory in Monday’s duel with the Atlanta Falcons, cashing in an upset as 10-point road dogs.

Jets, Smith edge out Falcons

Jets quarterback Geno Smith led his squad for a game-clinching drive in Monday’s win, capped off by a 43-yard field goal from Nick Folk. Smith connected 16-of-20 passes, finishing with three touchdowns as part of his 199 yards through the air.

New York’s Jeff Cumberland and Jeremy Kerley each caught one score, uniting for eight receptions and 147 receiving yards. Jets running back Bilal Powell was held to 38 rushing yards on 12 carries, while Smith tacked on three keepers for 21 yards.

Jets defensive mates Sheldon Richardson and Muhammad Wilkerson logged one sack each, while linebacker David Harris registered a season-high nine tackles. New York gave up four touchdowns in Atlanta’s five red zone trips, while the matchup’s combined 58 points soared ‘Over’ the ‘total’ of 45.

Steelers return off slide

Pittsburgh went into its bye week with a fourth straight defeat, dropping a 34-27 defeat as three-point road ‘chalk’ to the Minnesota Vikings. The Steelers trailed throughout the affair, falling behind by as many as 17 points.

Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell took in two touchdowns, dashing for 57 yards on 16 carries. Pittsburgh’s Ben Roethlisberger threw for 383 yards in a 36-for-51 day under center, finding wide out Jerricho Cotchery for one score.

Pittsburgh’s defense gave up 393 total yards, with 140 coming from Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson on the ground. Roethlisberger committed both of the Steeelers’ two turnovers, while the duel’s 61 points flew ‘Over’ the ‘total’ of 41.5.

Back the ‘Under’ on Sunday

Pittsburgh opened as a two-point road favorite on the betting lines board, with early betting on New York shifting the NFL odds to a "pick’em". The ‘total’ was first set at 40, rising north to 40.5 after initial wagers on the ‘Over’.

I am backing the ‘Under’ here as part of Sunday’s NFL picks, looking for the octane of both clubs to drop back down.

New York came away with season-high scoring in its win over the Falcons, but returns to its outdoor turf on a short week here. The Jets were held to 18 points or less in three of their first four contests of the year, while the ‘Under’ is 5-0 in the last five meetings between these foes that New York has hosted.

Pittsburgh has seen its scoring rise each time out this year, but still rank 29th overall with 17.2 PPG. The Steelers have also been held to a sparse 58 rushing YPG – leading to their share of “three and out’s.”

New York and Pittsburgh come in with two of the NFL’s top 10 defenses, giving up 299 YPG and 321.8 YPG, respectively. Look for a tight duel here, with the clock moving in the second half to give ‘Under’ backers a winning ticket in our sports picks
