The Seattle Seahawks were one yard away from repeating as Super Bowl Champions before an ill-advised pass last year. Will they make a third straight trip in 2015?
The 2015 NFL regular season is set to commence next Thursday, September 10th, but before we get to Kickoff Weekend, we will be here daily presenting team profiles in an attempt to assist you with your NFL picks prior to the season. Today we are profiling the Seattle Seahawks, who finished 12-4 in 2014 and in first place in the NFC West before advancing to their second straight Super Bowl but this time losing to the New England Patriots.
For starters, here is a summary of the Seattle betting statistics over the past five seasons. Note all of these statistics are for regular season games only.
Seattle Seahawks Betting Stats, 2010 through 2014
|Over – Under||22-17-1||21-19||43-36-1|
|Avg. Total Score||42.3||40.4||41.4|
It is not often that you find a team hitting at over a 60 percent clip over a five-year period, but yet the Seahawks are 60.8 percent ATS overall in the last five seasons, going 62.8 ATS as favorites and 60.0 ATS as underdogs! And that is not to mention Seattle going 70.0 percent ATS at home including 72.0 percent as a home favorite.
Key Trend: Seattle is 10-1, 90.9 percent ATS at home when coming off of a home game.
Next we take a look at the Seahawks’ statistical summary for the 2014 season.
2014 Seattle Seahawks Team Statistics (Per Game)
|Offense||Off. Rank||Defense||Def. Rank|
|Yds. Per Rush||5.2||1st||3.5||2nd|
|Yds Per Pass||7.5||4th||5.9||2nd|
|Yds. Per Play||6.3||3rd||4.9||1st|
The devastating Seattle defense gets most of the publicity, and deservedly so, but keep in mind that the offense finished ninth in the league in scoring and first in rushing last year. And the only reason the Seahawks were 25th in passing was because they has so many fewer attempts than other teams, as Russell Wilson actually finished fourth in yards per pass attempt, although his pass from the one-yard line in the Super Bowl will unfortunately go down in infamy.
Moving on, let us take a peek at various San Francisco Future Odds for this 2015 season from several sportsbooks. You can view these and other future and prop odds on the Sportsbook Review Futures and Prop Bets Directory.
2015 Seattle Seahawks NFL Futures
|Super Bowl Odds||+475||+420||+650||+430|
|NFC Conf. Odds||+285||+222||+375||+300|
|NFC West Odds||-357||-445||-225||-330|
|Win Total||11 ov-140||11 ov-148||11 ov-125||11 ov-140|
The Seahawks are the favorites to not only reach their third straight Super Bowl, but also to win it at most sportsbooks. One notable exception is Bovada, where Seattle is the second choice on both the Super Bowl Futures and the NFC Conference odds behind the Green Bay Packers. It also looks like the books are expecting another 12-win season with the ‘over’ on the posted win total of 11 juiced across the board.
Seattle Seahawks Key Additions
The Seahawks did not make many additions, but the few they did make were huge, adding tight end Jimmy Graham in a trade with the Saints and drafting wide receiver/kick returner Tyler Lockett with the second pick of the draft.
Seattle Seahawks Key Losses
The Seahawks traded away one of the best centers in football in Max Under to obtain Graham, and the revamped offensive line struggled during preseason. Other departures were tight ends Zach Miller and Tony Moeaki and guard James Carpenter on offense, as well as defensive end O'Brien Schofield, linebacker Malcolm Smith and cornerback Byron Maxwell on defense.
