Free NFL picks and predictions for the Week 4 matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the Houston Texans. Have we found any numbers on the NFL odds board worth exploiting?

The Seattle Seahawks have certainly gotten off to a good start this season, but they are encountering one of the tougher stretches of their schedule with most of the season left to be played. The Seahawks have to establish a lot more consistency before they can truly be seen as the unquestioned favorite in the NFC. A win this weekend in Houston against the Texans would do a lot to burnish Seattle’s reputation in and around the league. A loss would reintroduce a lot of doubts about this team and its readiness to move to the next level in the NFL.

The Seahawks can win because…

They are the better team. This is a hard contention to dispute. Seattle would very likely beat Houston on a neutral field. The Seahawks’ defense has been strong this season, especially against the pass. Seattle’s front four generates above-average levels of pressure on opposing quarterbacks, and the team’s secondary is one of the best in the league thanks to its lockdown cornerbacks, who are so adept at taking away large sections of the field.

Houston quarterback Matt Schaub has been very wobbly in the first three games of the season. Houston is fortunate to have escaped with wins over San Diego and Tennessee, squirming out of trouble to win in the final minute of regulation and in overtime as well. Schaub is not performing well enough at the moment to outmaneuver the Seattle secondary. The matchup between Seattle’s defense and Houston’s offense is so lopsided at the moment that the Seahawks won’t have to be at their best on offense in order to win this game or cover on the NFL odds.

The Texans can win because…

Their defense can put the clamps on Seattle’s offense. People who make their NFL picks know that one thing that has to be realized about Houston’s decisive loss last weekend in Baltimore against the Ravens is that Houston’s defense was not at fault. Baltimore made huge plays on defense and special teams to create touchdowns and build a lead against Houston. The Texans’ defense largely contained the Ravens’ offense in this game, and therefore, Houston’s defense should not be seen in a negative light.

The Texans, playing at home, will be encountering a Seattle team that did not perform very well in an early kickoff two weeks ago in Charlotte, N.C., against the Carolina Panthers. Seattle’s offense scored just 12 points and was fully outclassed by the Panthers’ defense, especially Carolina’s pass rush. Seattle’s offensive line really hasn’t been all that good this season; it’s been the defense which has carried the Seahawks to this point in time. If Houston’s defensive front outplays Seattle’s offensive front, the Texans can win the battle of field position and reduce the burden on their own offense to make plays. If Houston’s offense starts at or near midfield in this game, the Texans can outscore the Seahawks even without maximum production from that very same offense.

Outlook & NFL Football Betting Prediction:

The Seahawks are a better team in general, but will they win on this day? Seattle’s offensive line is still suspect and Russell Wilson is still a young quarterback. This feels like the kind of game that will slip through the Seahawks’ fingers. Take the Texans with your sports picks.
