The NFL odds are saying the New York Giants are the much better team despite their 0-6 start to the season. The Oakland defensive players said they prepared for Philadelphia’s fast-paced, but you would have never known it. What team will be worthy of one of your sports picks this week?

New York No Longer a Giant Mess

At 2-6, most NFL teams talk about trying to finish .500 while coaches and general managers begin the serious task of evaluating the roster and seeking a solution for the following year.

The Giants are in a potentially unique position being in the NFC East and know it. "We're fortunate that our division is down a little bit and we have a chance to dig ourselves out of this hole and get back in the race," GM Jerry Reese said. "We're excited that we're still in it."

New York trails the division leader Dallas by two games in the loss column and will still face the Cowboys again if they win a third straight game here, they could start to breathe life into their season.

Only once in Tom Coughlin’s tenure has New York failed to put together at least a four-games winning streak (2005) and the G-Men have long been know by those working the betting odds as a hot or cold team.

Eli Manning was dealt a bad situation and made it worse with his play this season. If the Giants are going to be a turnaround team, it will fall on his shoulders.

Oakland Has to Reboot

Before Sunday, the strength of the Raiders was its defense. Oakland players were saying before the Eagles contest, they had faced hurry-up offenses before and would be able to handle the pace.

By the time Nick Foles and the Philadelphia offense had the ball a second time; Oakland players could be visibly breathing so hard they are seeking all available oxygen in the area. The secondary looked like West Virginia playing against Baylor wide receivers, beaten at the snap of the ball and surrendered seven touchdown passes.

While the Giants will not play anywhere near the same pace, they have a strong array of pass-catchers and if coach Dennis Allen has his team as poorly prepared again, another rout could ensue, making NFL football handicappers jobs much simpler.

NFL Betting Odds and Matchup Numbers

The Giants were a touchdown favorite at the majority of sportsbooks upon release and after briefing falling below that figure, they came right back to -7. Those making NFL picks and Big Blue fans know this all too well, Tom Coughlin and the Giants are bankroll drainers in November at 12-23 ATS.

The total has been bumped up from 42 to 43.5 on the NFL odds boards, in spite of the Raiders 6-0 Under after allowing 300 or more passing yards and being 17-6 Under in road games after a home loss by 10 or more points.

Oakland wins and covers by…

Bringing the heat on Manning for starters. The Raiders are tied for 13th in the NFL in sacks at 23 and players like DE Lamarr Houston have to get in Manning’s grill and see if he returns to making mistakes. The secondary has to do a much better job in coverage and limit receivers like Victor Cruz.

Since the beating Terrelle Pryor took against Kansas City, he’s been more gun-shy in the pocket and reluctant to continue with his reads. If the Oakland offensive line can kick-start the running game, coach Allen might have Pryor throw confidence-building short passes and the offense can find a rhythm.

New York wins and covers by…

Giving Manning time to throw the ball, having one of the worst pass-blocking units in the NFL. Being pressured relentlessly has affected the two-time Super Bowl winning quarterback and he needs time to find his receivers.

The defensive line has to dial up the pressure since the Oakland pass catchers are well below normal and Pryor has begun to look confused when his first pass read is unavailable and has started to run to avoid taking big hits.

Final Outcome

If Oakland can limit the turnovers, there is every reason to believe they can play with the Giants, who appear to be a bloated favorite.
