Week 3 is well underway, and although Monday is still a few days away, I think the time is now to make your NFL Picks on the spread for Monday Night Football.

The NFL Odds have been steadily rising, but you can still find the Broncos as -14 ½ favorites this week against the Raiders.

Bucking Broncos

So far through two games, the Broncos are well on their way to becoming one of the best teams in the AFC this season. The conference is down this season, and already through two games, the offense has nine touchdowns and almost 1000 yards of total offense. While their defense is waiting on the return of some key players, their offense took a hit this week, and it will likely affect their Super Bowl chances.

Ryan Clady is out for the season after injuring his foot in last week’s game. This is a severe blow to the protection of Peyton Manning. Clady recently signed a huge deal making him one of the highest paid left tackles in all of football. The Raiders’ defense is no joke, and the Broncos will likely have to keep their TEs and running backs in more to account for the loss. Chris Clark will take over, and the team signed veteran free agent, Winston Justice to the league minimum to add some depth.

Raiders run reliant

So far through two games, the Raiders lead the league in rushing yards per game, at almost 200 per contest. Obviously this is inflated a bit due to this being the first two games of the season, but along with the rushing yards, this defense is a hell of a lot better than most people including me thought this season. So far the Raiders have a top 10 defense against both the run and the pass, however playing against the Jaguars can do that to your averages.

Either way, -14 ½ is still a lot, but I think the Broncos can cover it. Oakland is a young team playing on the road, and in the altitude, and this early in the season, the young Raiders are going to get tired easily. If they fall behind to the powerful Broncos, there won’t be any coming back by the arm of Terrelle Pryor. As good as the Raiders have been over the first two weeks, I think they are coming back down to earth in Week 3.

The Sharp Pick

Since Manning has come to the Broncos, Denver is 2-0 ATS against the Raiders, and they are 3-0 ATS in their last three games combined against the Raiders. Even though the Broncos haven’t been as successful in the more distant past against Oakland, the new era is definitely upon us. I don’t think the Broncos are going to lose four in a row ATS and SU to the Raiders again like they did between 2008-2011.

The Raiders are only 6-12 SU in their last 18 trips to the mile high city, and if they can’t run the ball, they are done. Denver’s run defense is very good, and I think they will do everything to keep Darren McFadden and Pryor bottled up and in the backfield as much as possible. I’m laying the points with Denver, there is just too much potential for a blowout in this game. The large spread does concern me, but the number just keeps going up, and is reaching -15 and -16 at some sportsbooks. Take the -14 ½ while you still can. I am personally buying the half point as well.

My Pick: Broncos -14 (Buy the half point -120) Bet 365
