The 2019 NFL schedule won’t be released until April, but we already know which teams have it toughest and easiest for next season.

We are going to look at strength of schedule for the 2019 NFL season in this space. However, let’s get something out of the way up front: This can be a very misleading statistic. Simply judging a team’s schedule by its opponents’ combined winning percentage from the previous season is an exact science at best. Some teams are going to be much better and some much worse. Free agency, trades, etc., are going to change rosters. That said, people like strength of schedule ratings.

Entering the 2018 season, the Green Bay Packers had the toughest strength of schedule as their opponents combined for a winning percentage of .539 in the 2017 season. The Packers missed the playoffs at 6-9-1 and have made a head coaching change, hiring Titans offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur. New Orleans and Detroit were tied for the second-toughest entering at .535 – the Saints would finish as the NFC’s top seed at 13-3, while the Lions finished last in the NFC North at 6-10.

The easiest schedule entering last year belonged to the Houston Texans. They started 0-3 but won the AFC South at 11-5 before losing in the wild-card round to Indianapolis. The division-rival Tennessee Titans had the second-easiest and finished 9-7 but missed a wild-card spot by a game. Super Bowl champion New England tied for the 22nd-toughest schedule last season. The runner-up Rams had the fifth-toughest.

Who has it toughest for 2019? That would be the Oakland Raiders with an opponents’ 2018 combined winning percentage of .539. The Raiders finished 4-12 in Jon Gruden’s first season and get a last-place schedule yet still have it hardest. Doesn’t help that both the Chargers and Chiefs were 12-4. AFC West teams play clubs from the AFC South and NFC North in 2019, and then Oakland gets the other two last-place teams in the AFC.

Probably not wise to go bet Oakland to win the Super Bowl as the Raiders are +12500 at 5Dimes. The team also reportedly will play its home games in the park of MLB’s San Francisco Giants (now called Oracle Park) because of a lawsuit filed by the City of Oakland. The Raiders will lose one “home” game by going to London and facing Chicago.

The Washington Redskins have the easiest schedule but don’t have a quarterback as starter Alex Smith is likely to miss all of the 2019 season after gruesomely breaking his leg against Houston. The Skins are also +12500 at 5Dimes to win Super Bowl 54 in Miami next February. Could Joe Flacco end up in Washington? Just down the road from Baltimore.

Here’s a look at every team’s strength of schedule and 2019 opponents. The schedule should be out around a week or so before the draft. Here are the international games:

Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers in Mexico City

Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers in London

Chicago Bears at Oakland
