Philadelphia Eagles future odds update
Let’s take a deeper look into the Eagles’ offseason and decide whether or not these NFL future odds are a preview of the value to come for Philadelphia and our sports picks.
Super Bowl (+3300)
A rather modest price for the Eagles this season, as they are the biggest Super Bowl underdog of the four NFC East teams. The Eagles obviously don’t have any Super Bowl value this season, but at least we can say they are building for the future. The Eagles were the worst of the worst when it came to their ATS record last season, as they cashed in just over 20% of their games in 2012. It will be tough to recover from that this year too because even though their Super Bowl price is pretty accurate, their AFC odds are much more suspicious.
It could go either way if the Eagles are overvalued in their Super Bowl odds, but they are very clearly overvalued in their odds to win the conference. Not only are they lower than any other team in their division, but they are likely going to give up and start rebuilding midseason if things go south in the first few games. After going 3-12-1 ATS last season, I’m not sure the Eagles are the play this season. They traded up in the 4th round to go and get Matt Barkley, which clearly indicates they are playing for the future. A team playing for the future should not be under 20/1 to win the NFC. The NFC is going to be tough this season. On top of that, their division is not going to be kind to them.
Seeing as they were the worst ATS team in the entire NFL last season, it’s hard to get excited about the Eagles this season. They were 0-7-1 ATS at home last year and that’s even hard to do when the books are trying to give you points by the end of the season.
While some will say that will give them value in the betting odds this season, I don’t think the always overvalued Eagles are going to be anywhere close to having value. The Eagles haven’t had a winning season ATS since 2008. Since then they have either been 8-8 ATS or awful like they were last season.
In the end there was a lot of turnover on this team and that is just enough to fade the Eagles. Their schedule is doing them no favors either. They don’t have a bye week until Week 12, and by that time they will have played most of their tough games, including the Broncos, Packers and Giants all on the road.
We might be able to examine the Eagles more in 2014, but for now they are a no play in the NFL future odds and probably during the season as well.
