Sunday’s football betting has Ron Rivera’s Carolina Panthers visiting the Minnesota Vikings, who return from their bye week recharged and ready for action. Who should we back in our sports betting picks for his game?

The Carolina Panthers logged their third loss of the year in last weekend’s 22-6 defeat to the Arizona Cardinals, falling as a three-point road favorite.

Panthers struggle to score

Panthers quarterback Cam Newton tossed three interception in last Sunday’s loss, while his offense failed to notch touchdowns in any of its three red zone trips. The Atlanta native connected 21-of-39 passes, finishing with 308 yards through the air.

Carolina gave up seven sacks, while being held scoreless in the entire second half. Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams rushed for 39 yards on 12 carries, with tight end Greg Olsen notching a team-high 79 receiving yards.

The Panthers’ defense held Arizona to 250 total yards, with linebacker Luke Kuechly snagging one of his side’s three interceptions en route to seven tackles. Panthers placekicker Graham Gano connected a 51-yard strike in a 2-for-2 day, while the contest’s combined 29 points dipped ‘Under’ the total of 41.5.

Vikings return off victory

Minnesota last saw action on September 29th, notching its first win in a 34-27 triumph over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Vikings held on after jumping out to a 10-0 lead, collecting as three-point home dogs.

Vikings quarterback Matt Cassel made his first start of the year in place of Christian Ponder, notching 248 passing yards and two touchdowns. Minnesota’s Adrian Peterson dashed for a season-high 140 yards, reaching the end zone for a pair of scores.

Minnesota’s defense came away with five sacks, while linebacker Chad Greenway grabbed an interception for a second straight game. The battle’s combined 61 points soared ‘Over’ the total of 41.5 by the third quarter, with the Vikings committing no turnovers.

Back the ‘Over’ in Minny

Opening NFL betting odds had Minnesota as a 2.5-point home favorite, while first listing the ‘total’ at 44.5. Ponder remains “questionable” for the Vikings, while the newly-acquired Josh Freeman is not expected to start.

I am adding the ‘Over’ in this matchup to Sunday’s NFL picks, looking for the octane to stay in high gear at the Metrodome.

Minnesota has seen the ‘Over’ cash in all four of its contests, while piling in 30.5 PPG in its two home affairs. The Vikings have given up a sizable 432.8 YPG and 30.8 PPG through their season, while likely not having it any easier with Newton and Co. visiting.

Carolina turned in a clunker last week, but should be back to moving the ball more easily in the confines of a dome. The ‘Over’ is 4-2 in the Panthers’ last six road games, including last month’s wild 24-23 defeat on the Buffalo Bills’ turf.

Placekickers Graham Gano and Blair Walsh have both had good years, uniting for a 14-for-15 mark in field goals – including a combined 4-for-4 from 50 yards or more. For your sports picks, look for the points to keep coming in here for the offense and special teams on each side, giving ‘Over’ backers a cashed ticket down the stretch.
