The NFL odds favor the Rams here at -4, with a total of 40.5 points. Will either team put up more fight than the other to get the win and cover in this game, or will the coaches blow it off until Week 3 of the preseason?
Both of these teams suffered losses in Week 1, and both head coaches are not that used to losing in the preseason. Neither team put up much of a fight in Week 1. The Cardinals blanked the Packers as Aaron Rodgers only played one short series for Green Bay.
The Rams put up a little more of a fight on the road in Cleveland last week, but the Browns ended up beating them after the Rams pulled their starters early. Sam Bradford played three drives in the first preseason game, which spanned into the 2nd quarter. I could easily see him and the rest of the Rams playing the entire first half in this game against the Packers, or at the very least get more than three drives.
Both of these coaches have some nice history in the preseason to go by, and I think their Week 1 performances will tell us a lot about what their plans are heading into Week 2 against one another.
Owns Week 2
Both of these coaches have excellent track records in the preseason, and Week 2 of the preseason is their bread and butter. While both coaches are now a combined 8-14 SU in the first week of the preseason, they are all business in Week 2. Jeff Fisher has a Week 2 preseason record of 10-5 SU, while McCarthy is 5-2 SU in his preseason Week 2 career with the Packers.
Both of these coaches are going to try for the win in this game, and while I think the spread might have some value, I think the total and the ‘Over’ are of much greater value for your sports picks. Both of these coaches will likely give their starters more of a run in this game than they got in Week 1, and both will be trying to remedy the loss last week.
The Sharp Pick
On top of being masters of Week 2, these coaches are also masters of the ‘Over’ in the preseason. Jeff Fisher is a combined 37-28-1 cashing above the total in his preseason career, while McCarthy is even better going 20-9 cashing the ‘Over’ in his preseason tenure with the Packers.
With the ‘Over’ being the bet of Week 1 going 11-5 in all of the games, the ‘Over’ is where I’m putting my NFL picks on this game. With both coaches likely trying to forget about their preseason Week 1 losses, I think this could be one of the higher scoring games of Week 2, and with the sports betting odds at only 40.5 points, I think we are getting a slight bargain.
