Week 17 NFL Betting Recap
At the close of Sunday's final round of the regular season, the favourites emerged 12-4 SU against underdogs but slipped to 7-9 ATS. Home teams went 9-7 SU and just 6-10 ATS against away teams. Finally, the over-under settled on a 5-11 mark.

Overall NFL Betting Trends
So the regular season finishes with the favourites going 167-82-1 SU and 119-127-2 ATS. Home teams went 141-108-1 SU and 121-125-4 ATS and the over-under settle down on a 114-135-4 mark.

Favourites Cashing
The Denver Broncos opened as the hefty 14.5-point favourites (or thereabouts on the NFL trading floor) but closed on a high of 16-points. Nevertheless, the Broncos handily covered in a 47-14 rout of the Raiders at Mile High and in so doing secured a first round bye in the playoffs.

Also resting in the wildcard round are the Seattle Seahawks (-11.5), who eventually eked out the 20-6 win over the Rams to cover as the home favourites, and Aaron Rodgers and the Packers after they overcame the Detroit Lions 30-20 to cover as the 8.5-point home favourites.

Dallas Cowboys, meanwhile, rode roughshod over the Washington Redskins in the nation's capital, winning 44-17 to come through for their NFL backers as the 6-point home favourites. Indianapolis Colts crushed the Titans 27-10 as the 7.5-point road favourites and the Chiefs overcame the Chargers in a 19-7 win to cover as the 3-point home chalk. Finally, the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated Cincinnati Bengals 27-17 to cover as the 3-point home favourites.

Underdogs Punching Above Their Weight Class
The Arizona Cardinals pulled off the 6.5-point cover on the road in a 20-17 loss to the Niners while the Jacksonville Jaguars (+8.5) covered in a 23-17 loss to the Houston Texans. The biggest cover on the NFL odds board by an underdog came from the Cleveland Browns, who lost to the Ravens 20-10. The Browns opened as the 7-point road underdogs but quickly swelled up to 14-points when it was announced Hoyer wouldn't start in the season finale in Baltimore.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers covered as the 4.5-point home underdogs in a 23-20 loss to the New Orleans Saints, but they could have pulled off the SU win had they not fritted away a 20-3 lead late in the game. Finally, the Chicago Bears (+7) covered on the road in a 13-9 loss to the Vikings.

Outright Upsets
Week 17 NFL betting served up several upsets, namely the Buffalo Bills beating the New England Patriots 17-9 at the Foxboro, to pull off wins in SU and ATS NFL picks. The Eagles finished the season on a positive note with a win over the New York Giants on the road. Eagles defeated the Giants 34-26 to cover as the notional 1-point underdogs.

The New York Jets upset the Miami Dolphins on the road, winning 37-24 and covering as the 7-point road underdogs.

Finally, the Carolina Panthers (+3) both won SU and covered for their NFL backers in a lopsided 34-3 win over the Falcons on the road.
