Can the Oakland Raiders make the grade this year? Find out as we preview their 2015 NFL schedule and serve up our game-by-game predictions and season win total picks.

Oakland Raiders Continue To Underwhelm
Another season. Another set of low expectations. Chalked at 5.5 projected season win totals in 2015, the Raiders are poised on the lowest season total line in NFL betting markets, a position they share with the likes of Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans. Hardly encouraging, is it.

Nobody that has followed the Oakland Raiders over the past decade can feign surprise though. They haven't made the grade in the last ten years, including 2014 when they finished the season with a subpar 3-13 SU record – which, incidentally, fell in line with our recommended NFL pick to go UNDER 4.5 at +140 in the Raiders' 2014 game-by-game preview.

In fact, the Raiders were in serious danger of going winless on the season entirely, after roaring out of the gates with all the intensity of a pack of marauding Pomeranian puppies in the first eleven weeks. Ahead of week 12 NFL betting, they were a shocking 0-10 SU but, somehow – a spot of luck and a soupcon of desperation – they finished with a .500 record in their last six games when they went 3-3 SU to close the season with a measure of respectability.

Still, by the overall numbers, the Raiders are a long way off of becoming legitimate contenders in the NFL. And that isn't going to change if they persist in their maddening habit of stockpiling on players that are (for a lack of a better phrase) past their sell-by-date or very nearly there.

What's more, NFL schedulers aren't taking it easy on the Raiders either, dishing out the 7th toughest NFL schedule with a 0.545 winning percentage. Yikes.

Health Warning: Fans hoping for a favorable outlook on Raiders' prospects this season are in for disappointment. Granted the projected season win total has climbed from 4.5 in early NFL betting markets to 5.5 now, but we're not buying it. Sorry. Don't hate. You've seen the NFL schedule. It's brutal. Maybe not as tough as last year's when they had the No.1 ranked NFL Schedule on the strength chart, but the seventh toughest schedule is hardly going to be a walk in the park for a side that has collected just 11 wins over the last three seasons.

Simply put: colour the world shocked if the Raiders take more than five wins this season.

Week 1: vs. Cincinnati (home), Sunday, Sept 13 at 4:05 PM
A season opening date with the Cincinnati Bengals is a tall order for the Raiders. Only the most optimistic fan will give the Raiders a fighting chance against Andy Dalton and Company. The Bengals will be tough to beat as they are just that much better on both sides of the ball. That and the fact that week 1 of NFL betting will mark Del Rio's debut as the Raiders head coach. Growing pains should be expected.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 0-1

Week 2: vs. Baltimore (home), Sunday, Sept 20 at 4:05 PM
A second AFC North side in as many weeks descending on Raiders nation marks a rough start to the season. The Baltimore Ravens are coming off an inspired run in 2014 that saw them clinch a playoff spot, upset the AFC North champions Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round before succumbing to the Patriots, the eventual champions in a thriller. The Raiders will be in over their heads.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 0-2

Week 3: vs. Cleveland (road), Sunday, Sept 27 at 1 PM
Last year, the Raiders lost to the Browns 23-13 in week 8 NFL betting. At the time, however, the Browns had Brian Hoyer. Now they have a dicey quarterback situation with Johnny "Football" Manziel mucking up his personal life and Josh McCown. This could be a game the Raiders win, even though it is on the road.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 1-2

Week 4: vs. Chicago (road), Sunday, Oct 4 at 1 PM
Yes, the Chicago Bears have John Fox. But they also have Jay Cutler and a shoddy defense. Well, it remains to be seen what John Fox can accomplish with his new team. In any event, this game has the potential to be a tight one. We're giving it to the hosts reluctanly, but won't be surprised if the Raiders do pull off the upset here.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 1-3

Week 5: vs. Denver (home), Sunday, Oct 11 at 4:25 PM
Last season, Peyton Manning outscored and outshot Derek Carr and the Raiders by a combined score of 88-31 in a series sweep. Need one say more?

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 1-4

Week 6: BYE Week

Week 7: vs. San Diego (road), Sunday, Oct 25 at 4:05 PM
The Raiders played the Chargers really close last year, losing both games by a handful of points. They've had a measure of success against Philip Rivers and Company, which could send them into this game with a measure of optimism, especially after being rested in a week 6 NFL bye. Still, it's a road game and taking one over the San Diego Chargers at Qualcomm is a tough ask.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 1-5

Week 8: vs. NY Jets (home), Sunday, Nov 1 at 4:05 PM
The Oakland Raiders will fancy their chances against Geno Smith and the New York Jets in week 8 NFL betting. The Jets have some attractive offensive weapons, but Geno Smith is beatable and it remains to be seen whether he can handle all the explosive firepower he has at his disposal. Can you trust him to make sound decisions when looking down the field? The Raiders can win this game.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 2-5

Week 9: vs. Pittsburgh (road), Sunday, Nov 8 at 1 PM
A date with Big Ben and the Pittsburgh Steelers looms on the NFL betting cards in week 9 NFL betting. It's an early road game for the Raiders, who'll be trekking across the country. What's more, Big Ben has NFL underlings for breakfast. This one could get ugly for the Raiders, if the Steelers get going at Heinz Arena.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 2-6

Week 10: vs. Minnesota (home), Sunday, Nov 15 at 4:05 PM
Teddy Bridgewater and the Minnesota Vikings descend on the Raiders in week 10 NFL betting. It's going to be an interesting matchup between the newbies: Bridgewater and Carr. It could go either way, but with home advantage going for the Raiders we'll give it to them.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 3-6

Week 11: vs. Detroit (road), Sunday, Nov 22 at 1 PM
Matthew Stafford and the Detroit Lions pose a tough obstacle on the road in week 11 NFL betting. Few NFL bettors would back the Raiders here, surely. The Raiders were 0-8 SU last season. They are unlikely to improve on that mark by much in just one season.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 3-7

Week 12: vs. Tennessee (road), Sunday, Nov 29 at 1 PM
Is there any team that is worse than the Tennessee Titans? The Raiders, Titans and Jaguars may all be trading on 5.5 season win totals in NFL betting markets, suggesting they are on par. We think the Raiders are a touch better and could potentially take the road win in Tennessee.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 4-7

Week 13: vs. Kansas City (home), Sunday,  Dec 6 at 4:05 PM
Divisional rivals Kansas City Chiefs descend on the Raiders looking for payback. The Chiefs were well on their way to winning the game, but for a last-gasp rally by Derek Carr and the Raiders that saw the hosts clinch the improbable 24-20 win. It marked the end of a 10-game losing streak in 2014 to start the season. The Chiefs never lived down that loss. This time they set the record straight.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 4-8

Week 14: vs. Denver (road), Sunday,  Dec 13 at 4:05 PM
See Week 5 NFL betting.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 4-9

Week 15: vs. Green Bay (home), Sunday,  Dec 20 at 4:05 PM
Aaron Rodgers vs. Derek Carr? Frightening thought. The Green Bay Packers should ride roughshod over the Oakland Raiders en route to a big win on the road.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 4-10

Week 16: vs. San Diego (home), Thursday, Dec 24 at 8:25 PM
The Chargers descend on the Raiders, coming off a Sunday showdown with the Miami Dolphins and Ndamukong Suh. It's a short week for the Chargers, which could give the Raiders a measure of optimism. However, Philip Rivers and the Chargers still should come through on Thursday Night Football. They are the better team.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 4-11

Week 17: vs. Kansas City (road), Sunday, Jan 3 at 1 PM
The Kansas City Chiefs will look to close the season on a positive note in a game that is sure to be cornered in their camp on the NFL odds board. Raiders will put up a respectable fight, but there's only one way to slice this game at Arrowhead. A Chiefs win.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 4-12

NFL Betting Verdict: By our conservative estimate in this game-by-game projection we have the Raiders going 4-12 SU, although they could go anywhere between a low of 2-14 to a high of 5-11 (give or take a few of the close calls mentioned above). In any event, all scenarios point to the UNDER 5.5 at -105 NFL odds at Bovada being the choice NFL pick.
