The Week 8 NFL Odds are out and shaping up fast. We have reached the big bye weeks in the NFL this week, as there are only 13 games from Thursday to Monday for Week 8.

Friday Odds

It’s Friday, which means we have reached the end of the workweek. The NFL Week 8 schedule is shaping up to be a good one, and as of this morning, there have been several NFL Odds that are moving fast. Let’s take one final look at the NFL Odds boards for Week 8, and wee which of these spreads have moved the most.

49ers vs. Jaguars

This one wasn’t even close to making this update yesterday, but in the last 24 hours, the NFL Odds for this game have gone from -17 ½ to -14 ½ in favor of the road 49ers, making it one of the biggest 24-hour shifts of any line this season. Apparently some huge money came in on the Jags over night, and it doesn’t surprise me one bit. The Niners traveling across country is going to be a hard game no matter who they play, and even with the Jags being awful, they aren’t +17 ½ underdogs. Jacksonville should be able to throw the ball some on San Francisco’s secondary, and I think the NFL Odds shift had that in mind.

Steelers vs. Raiders

I was all over the Raiders +3 when this line came out, and it appears others felt the same way. The NFL Odds for this game are down to around -1 in favor of the road Steelers, and even that is suspect. Pittsburgh had a tough win over the Ravens this past week, while the Raiders were at home sitting on their couches on bye. I think that rest is going to be the difference in this game, and I have already released the Raiders taking points as one of my best bets for Week 8. Oakland’s defense is very undervalued this week and in general, and I see them giving the Pittsburgh offensive line fits in this game. Look for this line to settle around -1.

Thursday Odds

Week 8 will start tonight but before we take one last look at the Thursday night game, let’s take a look at some of the closer spreads in the Week 8 NFL Odds. Yesterday we examined some of the larger spreads this week, and I think there may be some value in the lower ones as well.

Cowboys vs. Lions

Dallas heads into Detroit this week and the NFL Odds have the Lions as -3 favorites with a total of 51. While it would be somewhat of a stretch, I do think Dallas could have value here at +3, however there are a lot of factors that could prevent them as well. The Lions will probably throw the ball 55 times in this game against the weak Dallas secondary, and if Calvin Johnson has another 130 yards and two touchdowns, the Cowboys will not have any value. Dallas is going to have to play a lot better coverage to get the cover in this one, and that is asking a lot from a team giving up 292 passing yards per game.

Falcons vs. Cardinals

Although it may not be very glamorous, this game could have a ton of value. The NFL Odds for this one are some of the lowest of the week, as the Cardinals come in as -2 ½ home favorites, with a total of 45 points. Atlanta is all kinds of hurt right now, but the Cardinals haven’t been anywhere close to what some expected them to be on offense. Instead of betting the spread, I think a play on the under might have value. These two teams have the potential to put up a dud here, but I’m don’t like either side enough to recommend anything here. I just wouldn’t be so sure if you really liking the over in this one. Watch this total closely if you are thinking about making a play.

Week 8 will be here before you know it, and with only 13 games this week, we have to pick our NFL Odds value carefully. In my opening odds report, I took a look as some underdogs both home and away, and now it’s time to take a look at some of the bigger spreads of the week, and there are plenty of them.

49ers vs. Jaguars

Needless to say, anytime the Jaguars are involved in a game this season, it’s likely that they will be one of the biggest underdogs of the week. Week 8 is no exception, and even though they are at home once again this week, the Jags are +17 ½ underdogs to the visiting 49ers in this game. San Francisco will have to travel cross-country for this game, which should hamper them some, however the Niners could still own the Jags even after traveling across several time zones. While I think the Jags could keep this one close, they could also get blown out by 20 points again, which makes this one a no play in my eyes.

Redskins vs. Broncos

This time the big spread is for the home team, as the Redskins travel into Denver to play the now 6-1 SU Broncos. Denver got beat up this past Sunday night, but with one of the NFL’s worst defenses coming into town, I fully expect Peyton Manning and the Broncos’ offense to get right back where they left off a few weeks ago. If the Broncos don’t score 40 points in this one, I’ll be very surprised. The NFL Odds for this one favor the Broncos at -13, with a large total of 57 ½. Although I think the Skins can keep up with the Broncos, I doubt it will be enough to cover the spread here. Washington’s defense is really bad.

This means we have to be extra cautious in finding value, so let’s take an early look at the Week 8 NFL Odds and see what teams we should have our eyes on.

Panthers vs. Bucs

The Thursday night game this week is an NFC South divisional showdown between the Bucs and the Panthers. While Tampa Bay is still without a win this season, and Captain Fear is more afraid of himself, the Panthers got a big win last week to even their record to 3-3. Now they go into Tampa as -6 road favorites on a short week, and although they can cover this spread, a lot of it is because Doug Martin and Dashon Goldson are heading in for Monday MRIs like so many other players are today. This is not good for the Bucs, and with all of their problems, -6 might be a bargain for Carolina, even on the road in a short week.

Steelers vs. Raiders

The Steelers head out west into Oakland this week, and the NFL Odds have Pittsburgh as -3 road favorites. This may be overvaluing them just a little after their narrow win over the Ravens last week, but either way, the Raiders could be a nice upset pick against the Steelers coming off of their bye week. Oakland’s defense is as good as or better than the Ravens, and on the road the Steelers are only 2-4 SU in their last six games. I think I have an early lean on the Raiders in this one. A cross-country game to play a team coming off of their bye week can’t be good for the Steelers.

Jets vs. Bengals

Even after beating the Patriots at home, the Jets are a touchdown underdog going into Cincinnati this week. The NFL Odds have New York a +7 and +6.5 on the road, and if Geno Smith can play with some of the same poise he did last week, the Jets are going to have value here. Even though the Bengals are a great team, the Jets’ offense has started to turn around. Their running game is starting to ramp up and Smith’s running ability make the Jets a serious ground game.

Seahawks vs. Rams

Looking far ahead to the Monday night game a week from today, the Seahawks head into St. Louis to face a Rams team that is looking at a potentially lost season. After their huge win against the Texans in Week 6, they followed it up with a loss to the Panthers, and an even bigger loss as well. Sam Bradford tore his ACL and is out for the season, and the Rams are going to be hard pressed to find a suitable replacement before the Hawks come to town. Not only is one of the best teams in the NFC coming to town, but they might have one of their key weapons for the first time this season. Percy Harvin apparently has a chance of playing in this game, and if he does it is going to help the passing game a lot in Seattle. The NFL Odds for this game already favor the Hawks at -10.5, and even though it’s a double-digit road favorite, I doubt the Rams can put up a fight here.
