Season win totals for the Jets are swelling on the NFL odds board across sports betting platforms. Is that a sign the Jets will double their win total from last season? Here's our game-by-game predictions and NFL picks.

Can Jets Double Their 2014 Season Win Total?
The Jets enjoyed a forgettable 2014 behind a 4-12 SU mark that effectively ended Rex Ryan's tenure as head coach, along with some of the headset-wearing set at the sidelines and the general manager as well. Finishing in the AFC East basement was just one step too far backwards for the organisation after the Jets finished 2013 with an 8-8 SU mark and set high expectations for the following season. High expectations we'd bought into, admittedly with our projected 9-7 SU win total for the Jets in 2014. So much for our lofty NFL predictions; one of the few we got wrong. Happens to the best of us cappers.

In any event, a new era in New York is set to get underway in 2015. How it shapes up is anybody's guess (and yes we're going to take a stab at it below), but if the NFL odds were any indication, the prognosis is somewhat favorable.

Early projected season win totals for the Jets opened on the 6.5-win mark, but they've crept up since to 7.5 at Bovada with the OVER trading at firm -150 NFL odds while the UNDER is trading at decidedly underdog NFL odds of +120. A bit of a conundrum with a modest season win total, but a heavily favored OVER on the NFL odds board that correlates to the buzz that's picked up around this team thanks to a new coach and some key acquisitions in both free agency and the NFL draft.

Still, the quarterback situation is a question mark with Geno Smith, Bryce Petty and Ryan Fitzpatrick in the running for the starting job. Not until the starter is decided will NFL bettors get a true sense of what this team's potential really is and whether the buzz is warranted.

The Jets have received a relatively favorable NFL schedule that ranks 18th on the depth chart and boasts a winning percentage of 0.488. Lighter than last season's 9th ranked NFL schedule with a 0.520 winning percentage.

On paper, it's a winnable NFL schedule, well poised to serve up a .500 season or better for the Jets. Games aren't played on paper however. So it remains to be seen how well Rex Ryan and his Gang Green navigate the NFL schedule.

How do we see their 2015 NFL season going down? Well, you can find out by going through our way-too-early game-by-game predictions, topped off with our NFL picks for the Jets season win totals.

Week 1: vs. Cleveland (home), Sunday, Sept 13 at  1 PM
A matchup against the underwhelming Cleveland Browns in week 1 is a favorable one for just about every team in the NFL, but against the Jets it looks to be a level playing field Well, at least at quarterback. Josh McCown or Johnny "Football" Manziel starting for the Browns isn't going to make a whole lot of difference. Where there could be a difference for the Jets is if Ryan Fitzpatrick starts for the Jets; the veteran brings a breadth of experience and played a part in the Texans' solid 9-7 season. The Jets win their opener to kick off their season on a positive note at home. (If the Jets start Geno Smith, however, don't bet the farm here).

NFL Picks: Win
Record 1-0

Week 2: vs. Indianapolis (road), Monday, Sept 21 at 8:30 PM
In week 2 of NFL betting, the Jets travel to Indianapolis to take on the highly favored Colts on the NFL odds board. This figures to be a very tough test and one that comes way too early on the season for the Jets. In three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, Luck has fashioned a 19-5 SU record at Lucas Oil Stadium, built up mainly by beating up on perceived lesser outfits. A Jets in rebuilding mode falls into that category.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 1-1

Week 3: vs. Philadelphia (home), Sunday, Sept 27 at 1 PM
Chip Kelly has been a very busy man in the offseason, steering a whole slew of players towards the exit sign. While there's a lot of buzz about the wholesale changes, there is also scepticism. One of the main question marks is who will Kelly start as his No.1 shot caller in 2015? Mark Sanchez? (It would be a reunion with the Jets for him if that were the case)? Will he go with the oft-injured Sam Bradford or will he go with the wild card Tim Tebow (also a reunion). Still, the Philadelphia Eagles have a lot of offensive talent that swings this game slightly in their favor in our opinion. What's more, the Jets are 0-9 SU against the Eagles in the regular season. Weird, huh?

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 1-2

Week 4: vs. Miami (LONDON), Sunday, Oct 4 at 9:30 AM
The AFC East rivals collide at Wembley Stadium in week 4 NFL betting for what is sure to be a scintillating matchup. It's the first divisional game for the Jets and one in which they might fancy their chances. Last season, these two rivals split the series, each winning on the road. This season, the Jets have the slight advantage as they play the Miami Dolphins in London and then at home in week 16 NFL betting. Ryan Tannehill made great strides last season and the Dolphins have acquired Ndamukong Suh. The Jets could fall a bit short.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 1-3

Week 5: Bye

Week 6: vs. Washington (home), Sunday, Oct 18 at 1 PM
The Redskins have been struggling for the last two seasons and things don't appear to be looking up in 2015. Indeed, odds makers have rolled out a 6.5 win total with the UNDER heavily trading at -150 NFL odds. If that isn't telling, what is? The Jets should have the measure of RGIII and Company.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 2-3

Week 7: vs. New England (road), Sunday, Oct 25 at 1 PM
In week 7 NFL betting, the NY Jets are set to take on the defending Super Bowl champions. By week 7, Tom Brady is sure to be back in the line up and to have taken a few snaps already. Plus this is a game at Gillette Stadium where the New England Patriots are the most potent. Jets have played the Patriots tough in recent seasons, including two narrow losses at home. Unless the Jets' quarterback situation undergoes a miraculous change, this game is for the hosts to win or lose.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 2-4

Week 8: vs. Oakland (road), Sunday, Nov 1 at 4:05 PM
Back-to-back road games on opposite sides of the continent is a bit of a brutal ask for any team. After a tough divisional game at the Foxboro, the Jets travel to the West Coast to take on the rebuilding Oakland Raiders. Given that both teams have a lot of question marks the playing field is level. This could be a close game that goes either way, but the Jets figure to have a few more weapons than the Raiders do such as Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall, to name a few.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 3-4

Week 9: vs. Jacksonville (home), Sunday, Nov 8 at 1 PM
The Jacksonville Jaguars are a team with plenty of upside but they are a few years away from becoming competitive, never mind contenders. They went 0-8 SU on the road last season, a mark they're going to improve on but not by much in 2015. All in all, this is a must-win game for the Jets against a team that struggled something huge last season.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 4-4

Week 10: vs. Buffalo (home), Thursday, Nov 12 at 8:30 PM
Rex Ryan is set to return to MetLife in week 10 NFL betting when he arrives with the Buffalo Bills as their newly appointed head coach. There's a lot of familiarity between these two teams on account of the divisional aspect and the familial ties with Rex Ryan. This game is a bit of a tossup as a result. That said, the Bills quarterback situation is nothing to write home about. Home edge, Thursday Primetime Football and better weapons in the Jets camp should serve up the home win.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 5-4

Week 11: vs. Houston (road), Sunday, Nov 22 at 1 PM
The Texans traded away Ryan Fitzpatrick to the Jets despite the veteran playing a big role in their 9-7 SU season. He could have a chip on his shoulder if he gets to start in this game. Still, it's one thing when J.J. Watt is on your side and another when he's staring you down. This is going to be a tough road game for the Jets to win outright.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 5-5

Week 12: vs. Miami (home), Sunday, Nov 29 at 1 PM
Last season, the Jets and Dolphins split the series with each team winning on the road. The first meeting between these two outfits in 2015 was in week 4 and across the pond. The Jets have the home advantage in this one and that gives them the slight edge over the Dolphins on paper. Home advantage finally becomes the charm for the Jets as they beat the Dolphins at MetLife.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 6-5

Week 13: vs. NY Giants (road), Sunday, Dec 6 at 1 PM
This is going to be an interesting matchup by all accounts, mainly the matchup of Odell Beckham Jr. and Revis. Unlike the Jets, who had a week 4 Bye, the Giants come out of a week 11 bye and play the Potato Skins in week 12 NFL betting. They should be the better rested team in this game. The Giants haven't faltered in this matchup since 1993 and that's worth taking stock of on your NFL picks. There might be no divisional or conference rivalry to speak of in this matchup, it's still a city rivalry that the folks of NY get up for.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 6-6

Week 14: vs. Tennessee (home), Sunday, Dec 13 at 1 PM
The Titans are in rebuild mode. By this time in the season, rookie Marcus Mariota may be seeing a few snaps. In any event, with the offensive weapons, stout defense and combined experience of the Jets, this should be a straightforward home win.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 7-6

Week 15: vs. Dallas (road), Saturday,  Dec 19 at 8:25 PM
The Dallas Cowboys are coming off a solid 2014 season and many NFL bettors figure they'll factor once again in the coming season. A week 15 NFL date with Tony Romo and the Boys at the A&T Stadium in rare Saturday Night Football slot is a tough ask. The Cowboys are sure to be in the hunt for the NFC North title once again and this is a game they'll be looking to win.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 7-7

Week 16: vs. New England (home), Sunday, Dec 27 at 1 PM
Tom Brady and the Patriots descend on MetLife Stadium in week 16 NFL betting. The Patriots swept the series with the Jets last year and they'll be looking to continue that solid run of form this season. On balance, the Patriots have the edge at quarterback and on both sides of the ball. The Jets play the Patriots tough, but Brady and Company find a way to win.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 7-8

Week 17: vs. Buffalo (road), Sunday, Jan 3 at 1 PM
The NFL schedulers have a taste for irony, don't you think? A season closer in Buffalo? Against former coach Rex Ryan? Many chips on many shoulders. This one could get quite physical if not ugly. What's more, it's a tossup. Either side could win this game, but with Rex Ryan and the Bills enjoying home edge we're giving it to the hosts.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 7-9

NFL Betting Verdict
As you can see, our NFL predictions hover quite close to the projected season win total of 7.5. Give or take a few games, we have the Jets going anywhere from a 6-10 SU season to a high of 8-8. To predict anything higher than 8-8 with all the question marks would be a stretch right now. Besides we made that mistake last season, buying into the hype and all. Not this time. Conservative betting is the best strategy with the Jets until proven otherwise. Many great pieces but how they fit together is yet to be seen. So we're going with a 7-9 SU record and that puts us just under the 7.5 win total currently trading. Take the UNDER 7.5 at +120 on your NFL picks.
