The Kansas City Chiefs may be one of the most improved teams in the entire NFL this season after a league worst 2-14 SU in 2012. LVH Sportsbook certainly thinks so, as they have the Chiefs handicapped to 7 wins this season, with the over chalked to -135, and the under coming in at +115.
Much like the rest of this division, the Chiefs rank in the bottom of the NFL in strength of schedule. The AFC West plays the NFC East and the AFC South this season, two divisions with their share of below-average teams. They open up in Jacksonville this season followed by three straight games against the NFC East. Also, before their bye week they get to play Tennessee, Oakland, Cleveland and Buffalo.
Although their second half isn’t as easy, besides two games in three weeks against the Broncos after their bye week, it could be worse. They do have to play Washington and Indianapolis as well in that second half, but as long as they take care of business in the first half, this team could very well go from worst to playoffs in one season if all goes well.
How does Kansas measure up against the rest of the AFC West?
Jacksonville and Kansas City would have been threatened for blackout if it wasn’t the first game of the season (Good job, League scheduling office!); but, as time passes this offseason, this matchup looks more and more intriguing. The NFL odds have the Chiefs as -2.5 road favorites in this one, with a total of only 39 points. I am all over the Chiefs this season, and their Week 1 NFL Odds are no different.
I not only think the Chiefs have a great shot at winning and covering in Week 1, but their team total for this game will likely be low as well, and even though they are on the road, I could see them putting up some points against an improved, but still not very good Jacksonville defense. At somewhere just over 20 points, I think the Chiefs have a nice opportunity to score a lot to open the season, when no one sees what’s coming.

The Sharp Pick
As you can see I’m pretty high on the Chiefs this offseason, and if it can all gel, this team is going to be a winning football team SU in 2013. Seven wins is too little for this team, and if you can find them at 7.5 with a better price on the ‘Over’ than -135, then by all means take it. If you can’t find a better price, I still feel confident in laying some money on the Chiefs to go over their season wins total as one of my solid NFL picks. The combination of Jamaal Charles, Dwayne Bowe and Alex Smith is going to make a nice offense, and if they have improved their rushing defense like I think they have, this team is going to the playoffs. They could even have seven wins by the time their Week 10 bye hits if all goes well.
My Pick: ‘Over’ 7 -135
Week 1 Lean: Chiefs -2.5 at Bet365
