In a rare feat, these two teams combined last week for 31 penalties for 284 yards and two victories. Who will come out on top for our NFL picks today?

The Jets piled up 20 penalties for 168 yards in a 27-20 victory at home against the Buffalo Bills while the Titans accumulated a measly (by comparison) 116 yards on 11 penalties in a win at home against the San Diego Chargers. Both victories were by a single score. The Titans scored a touchdown on their last drive to win and the Jets scored theirs with about 6 minutes remaining in the game. Who will take the cake for our NFL picks today?

Both teams are looking to leave this encounter with a surprising 3-1 record. These two teams are very similar, they both rely on their front seven and a strong ground game and they both have young unproven Quarterbacks. To figure out who will win this game there are a couple questions you can ask. Can this Jets team that has allowed just under 80 yards per game on the ground contain Chris Johnson? The Jets have allowed 3.2 yards per carry average to opponents and Chris Johnson has been pretty much contained through three games gaining just 85 yards per game, however the Titans as a team are sixth in the NFL in rushing (133.7 yards per game. Has Jake Locker turned the corner or was his impressive performance last week due in large part, to the defense he played in San Diego who are allowing an NFL worst 370 yards per game through the air? Will the Titans unleash their young QB with their blocking issues up front?

This game comes down to a few factors for me, I think that both teams will be looking to grind hoping to take an early lead and then eating clock as best they can. This game is going to come down to which young QB makes the last amount of mistakes and which team commits the least amount of penalties. I believe that Tennessee is the more disciplined team, they have the seventh best defense in the NFL, and the sixth best running game. They are not flashy, but they do enough well to win games. I trust Locker more to make decisions and hold on to the ball. Geno Smith has proved in three games that while he has a big arm, he also like to force the ball. Locker has done less of that recently and in a game that could come down to a single possession I will take the team that makes less mistakes.

I like Tennessee to win a tough hard tough battle in the trenches. Under the total looks like a solid play in this game but I like the Titans a bit more.
