If either the Ravens or Jets want any shot of making the playoffs, they need a win this weekend. Which team will it be that makes it as your NFL pick?
The Ravens opened NFL odds as 3.5-point favorites and that number has risen to four at some NFL betting sites. Baltimore is 4-6 SU and 5-5 ATS and New York is 5-5 SU and 6-4 ATS.
If you can believe it, the OVER has cashed in seven of the ten matchups involving the Jets this season. That being said, a low O/U of 39 has been posted by sportsbooks for Week 12.
New York Jets
The up-and-down nature of New York's season continued, as they once again followed a win with a loss by falling short in a 37-14 defeat to Buffalo.
The Jets were riding high after a feel-good 26-20 win over New Orleans, but they couldn't match their intensity and execution against the Bills.
It was a horrendous day for Geno Smith and the New York offense. Smith had only eight completions and was picked off three times, while also losing a fumble. The Jets mustered up a miserable 267 total yards of offense in the loss. Chris Ivory (15 attempts for 98 yards and a TD) was one of the only bright spots.
New York's defense, which has been their saving grace this season, could only look on helplessly as rookie EJ Manuel tore them to shreds. CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson didn't do anything at all, but Manuel connected with Marquise Goodwin and TJ Graham for touchdowns to spur Buffalo.
Looking at the numbers, we find the Jets are still ranked seventh in total defense despite last week's shortcomings. However, the offense continues to sputter, ranking #20 in the entire NFL.
The Ravens lost any momentum they had gotten from a Week 10 win over Cincinnati by losing by three to Chicago this past weekend.
Ahead 17-13 at halftime, Baltimore slowly saw their lead disappear, and in overtime they couldn't capitalize on offense. Robbie Gould's 38-yard field goal condemned the Ravens to their fourth loss in five games.
It was a performance to forget for Joe Flacco, who was unusually inaccurate. He was 17-of-31 for 162 yards and had more interceptions (two) than touchdowns (one). Ray Rice, however, had a terrific game, racking up 148 total yards to go along with a score.
However, Baltimore just couldn't execute when it mattered most.
Couple that loss with the Bengals grabbing a big win over Cleveland and the pressure is really on Baltimore to start putting together a winning streak, starting with this encounter with New York.
We can't go against the Ravens at home for this NFL pick.
Sure, New York has come back and won every time after losing the previous week, but we expect that chain to break this Sunday.
The Ravens are a completely different team at home, where they've gone 3-1 with victories over Cincinnati, Houston and Cleveland and a narrow loss to Green Bay. Meanwhile, the Jets have really struggled on the road, losing to Buffalo, Cincinnati, New England and Tennessee.
Baltimore is coming off a very disappointing loss to Chicago, a game they controlled for large portions and one they should have won. The Ravens are going to come out with a lot of fire back at home and we expect them to stroll to a win and easily cover this short spread.
Pick: Baltimore Ravens -3.5
