The Jacksonville Jaguars look to continue building in 2015 amidst modest expectations. We weigh in on their season win totals and serve up our NFL picks.

Jacksonville Jaguars Look To Crack 5.5 Season Win Total
Jacksonville Jaguars finished the season with a 4-12 mark,  falling slightly short of the 4.5 projected season win totals in 2014. Admittedly, we were a touch generous with the Jaguars last year, believing they might go above that mark. They didn't.

In 2015, odds makers set the bar higher. At 5.5 season win totals with the OVER trading at staggering -145 NFL odds and the UNDER trading at +115 NFL odds. Clearly, the idea is that they'll take a significant step forward this year. And we sorta agree on that score.

As far as the strength of the NFL schedule goes, it's navigable. The Jaguars have received the 25th ranked NFL schedule with a winning percentage of 0.463. It's comparable to last year's 29th ranked NFL schedule with a winning percentage of 0.453. Worst case scenario, they come away with a similar 4-12 record. However, one assumes that Blake Bortles in his second year as the shot caller will see some improvement.

Week 1: vs. Carolina (home), Sunday, Sept 13 at 1 PM
The Carolina Panthers may have finished with a 7-8-1 SU record, but they won the NFC South title and rode the wave of a four-game winning streak down the stretch into the postseason. Cam Newton and Company are certainly better than their 2014 record would suggest and they should prove too much for second year quarterback Blake Bortles and the Jaguars.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 0-1

Week 2: vs. Miami (home), Sunday, Sept 20 at 4:05 PM
The Dolphins descend on the Jaguars in week 2 NFL betting with Ryan Tannehill looking to improve on an 8-8 SU season with a fortified side that includes the acquisition of Ndamukong Suh and several others. Last year, the Dolphins beat the Jaguars 27-13 in Jacksonville. The improvements on the defensive side of the ball for the Dolphins are going to prove difficult for second-year quarterback Blake Bortles and the Jaguars' modest offense to overcome.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 0-1

Week 3: vs. New England (road), Sunday, Sept 27 at 1 PM
The Jaguars get the New England Patriots in week 3 NFL betting, a game that by all accounts should feature Garoppolo instead of Brady (four-game suspension, unless the appeal hearing is successful and his suspension is overturned. Stay tuned for that outcome). If the Jaguars are fortunate enough to avoid Brady, they still have the rest of the Patriots to deal with, which include Rob Gronkowski, Julian Edelman and Bill Belichick, to name a few. Did we forget to mention they are the Super Bowl Champions? Oh and the game is being played in Gillette Stadium. Yup, no chance.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 0-3

Week 4: vs. Indianapolis (road), Sunday, Oct 4 at 1 PM
Back-to-back dates on the road with the best teams in the AFC. Yikes. Andrew Luck has owned the Jaguars in the last five meetings. Is there any reason to assume that might change when the Jaguars arrive at Lucas Oil Stadium? Well,....? Thought as much.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 0-4

Week 5: vs. Tampa Bay (road), Sunday, Oct 11 at 1 PM
In week 5 NFL betting, the Jaguars get their first winnable game against the developing Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Both teams have a long way to go before they can be considered viable contenders in the league, which levels the playing field a bit. Buccaneers struggled mightily last season and finished with a 0-8 SU record at home. Bucs have made some good moves in the draft and rookie quarterback Jameis Winston's debut is highly anticipated this season. Still, Jaguars could have the slight edge over the rookie if they come up against him.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 1-4

Week 6: vs. Houston (home), Sunday, Oct 18 at 1 PM
J.J. Watt and the Texans' defense descend on the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 6 NFL betting, a divisional rivalry that is going to be pivotal for each side to win. The Texans went 9-7 SU last season and narrowly missed the playoffs, a feat that was rather impressive considering the inconsistency at quarterback. In Brian Hoyer they'll have somebody a bit more reliable and with Watt, Clowney and Wilfork wrecking havoc on the Jaguars, the Texans should win this game handily. Houston defeated the Jaguars 27-13 and 23-17 (home and away, respectively) last season.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 1-5

Week 7: vs. Buffalo (LONDON), Sunday, Oct 25 at 9:30 AM
The Jaguars and Bills collide at Wembley Stadium for an NFL showdown across the pond. Bills defense should be a huge factor this season but is EJ Manuel going to step up this season? With the quarterback situation dicey in Buffalo, the Jaguars could potentially surprise in this game.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 2-5

Week 8: BYE Week

Week 9: vs. NY Jets (road), Sunday, Nov 8 at 1 PM
Straight off the Bye week, the Jaguars come face-to-face with another quarterback that is under the cosh. Geno Smith has disappointed since his debut with the Jets and patience is running thin with him. Jets have plenty of offensive weapons that could hurt the Jaguars, so long as Smith utilises them to their maximum potential. Still, the Jaguars do have a reasonable shot in this game. It's a toss up really.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 3-5

Week 10: vs. Baltimore (road), Sunday, Nov 15 at 1 PM
Joe Flacco and the Baltimore Ravens are too big of an ask for second year quarterback Blake Bortles to overcome. Considering he was the league's worst starter with a 21.9 QBR) beating a Super Bowl winning quarterback would be quite the giant leap forward.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 3-6

Week 11: vs. Tennessee (home), Thursday, Nov 19 at 8:25 PM
In week 11 NFL betting, the Jaguars take on the Tennessee Titans, who might be starting Marcus Mariota by this stage of the season, if they haven't already. On paper, this it's a level playing field between two sides that are in the rebuilding stage. Jaguars have home advantage and that could be the decider here.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 4-6

Week 12: vs. San Diego (home), Sunday, Nov 29 at 1 PM
Philip Rivers and the Chargers descend on the Jacksonville Jaguars in week 12 NFL betting, a game that is sure to be cornered in the visitors camp on the NFL odds board. Rivers can blow hot and cold from time to time, but he's still reliable enough to beat down on lesser teams and inexperienced quarterbacks.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 4-7

Week 13: vs. Tennessee (road), Sunday, Dec 6 at 1 PM
Last season, the Jaguars and Titans split the series with 16-14 loss in Tennessee and a 21-13 win at home. Indeed, there are those NFL bettors that would suggest the Jaguars should have swept the series last season. Not just because the Titans were so bad, but the Jaguars' costly mistake on the field cost them the game. This year the Jaguars could potentially sweep this series.

NFL Picks: Win
Record 5-7

Week 14: vs. Indianapolis (home), Sunday, Dec 13 at 1 PM
Andrew Luck and the Colts take a huge win against the Jaguars here. Nothing more needs to be said.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 5-8

Week 15: vs. Atlanta (home), Sunday, Dec 20 at 1 PM
Atlanta Falcons have been underwhelming these past few seasons. If they are underwhelming again this year, this is a game the Jaguars could potentially fancy winning with home advantage. On the offensive side of the ball, the Falcons can do a lot of damage. On the defensive side of the ball, they could drop the ball. This is a bit of a tossup in our books. Jaguars could surprise here, not unlike they did against the NY Giants in week 13 of NFL betting last year. But one thinks Matt Ryan should get it done, no?

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 5-9

Week 16: vs. New Orleans (road), Sunday, Dec 27 at 1 PM
The Superdome is an intimidating place at the best of times. That wasn't the case last season as Drew Brews and the Saints imploded in horrible fashion. How this game goes down depends on what sort of Saints we see in 2015. Then again, one has to believe Drew Brees can outwit his second-year opposite.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 5-10

Week 17: vs. Houston (road), Sunday, Jan 3 at 1 PM
A season closer in Houston is a tough order for the Jacksonville Jaguars. In fact, it marks the second season in a row they face the Texans in week 17 NFL betting. Last year, they lost 23-17 to the Texans, despite the fact that they were facing the backup quarterback.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record 5-11

NFL Betting Verdict: According to our game-by-game rundown, we have the Jaguars finishing 5-11 SU. So our recommended NFL picks is the UNDER 5.5 at +115 NFL odds. However, they could go anywhere from a low of 4-12 to a high of 6-10 on the season give or take a few of the tossups mentioned above.
