Kansas City Chiefs descend on the Arizona Cardinals for week 1 of NFL Preseason betting. With NFL odds in full swing, we deliberate where the best NFL picks are to be had.

Chiefs Face Tough Preseason Opener Against Cardinals
The Kansas City Chiefs are after a solid 9-7 SU account in 2014 but they were forced to miss the playoffs when they lost the wildcard race. In any event, the Chiefs have much to be optimistic about in the coming season. They are 20-12-0 SU in the last two seasons behind Alex Smith at quarterback, marking a 10-game winning average over the last two seasons. They have standout running back Jamal Charles, two interesting backup quarterbacks ready to fight it out in the preseason in Chase Daniel and Aaron Murray, and a stout defense that allowed the second fewest points against last season at 17.6, second only to Seattle Seahawks with 15.9 points.

Arizona Cardinals, meanwhile, are coming off an impressive 11-5 SU account last term, which saw them go through into the playoffs in second place behind Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West. Indeed, the Cardinals very nearly won the NFC West only for the Seahawks to put in a late rally down the stretch. What made the Cardinals’ run so remarkable was that they accomplished it despite having to play without Carson Palmer for the better part of the season. In hindsight, though, injuries were their undoing. Particularly in the postseason when they went out in the wildcard round to the Carolina Panthers in a 27-16 loss.

Chiefs vs. Cardinals Preview
Last season, the Cardinals had a rather disappointing preseason, winning just one out of four games. The opener against the Houston Texans at home 32-0. Although they lost the three consecutive warmup games, they burst out of the gates in the regular season and reeled off nine wins in their first ten games. They also overcame the Kansas City Chiefs in week 14 NFL betting, beating them 17-14 at home.

The Chiefs enjoyed a similar preseason account going 1-3 SU after winning their opener and dropping the ensuing three games. They opened with a 41-39 win over Cincinnati Bengals, but lost to Carolina, Minnesota and Green Bay Packers. That negative trend stayed with them in the first few weeks of the season as they lost their opener to Tennessee Titans 26-10 and then 24-17 to Denver Broncos. They bounced back, however, with a 34-15 win over Miami and a 41-14 drumming of the New England Patriots. Down the stretch the Chiefs did run out of gas winning just two of their last six games.

NFL Betting Tips and Picks:
Predictably, the Arizona Cardinals are the hot favourites going into this game to win outright. They are also trading as the 3-point home chalk against the spread at most sportsbooks, while the total is suitably low at 36 with the OVER and UNDER matched at -110 NFL odds.

Given that this is a preseason game and the fact that the Chiefs and Cardinals match up rather well, as two quality outfits, it’s a tossup on your NFL picks. Home advantage certainly tips the balance towards the Cardinals, but few will be surprised if the Chiefs pull off the upset. For our money, were taking the Chiefs as the 3-point road dogs to cover as our value NFL pick.
