Week 8 of NFL betting is already in full swing so join us as we scour through the matchups slated for the weekend in search of good bets on bad teams in order to deliver the best value football picks.

New York Giants +180 @ Philadelphia Eagles -220

Analysis: New York Giants descend on the Philadelphia Eagles (3-4, 0-3 home) this weekend installed as the bookies’ +180 underdogs as they search for only their second win of the season. Giants (1-6, 0-4 away) finally got one in the win column when they snapped a six-game losing streak with a 23-7 victory over Minnesota Vikings .

Now they put another streak on the line, an eight-game losing streak on the road. Will they end their travelling blues? Well, the Eagles certainly hope not. They are enjoying a franchise record nine-game losing streak at home and they’d like nothing better than to put an end to that slide.

Clearly, somebody’s losing trend is about to end but the question is who? Obviously with hefty -220 odds on a home win, sportsbooks are favouring the Eagles to end their winless drought at home but for a side that is clearly inconsistent, aren’t -220 NFL odds a bit steep of a price tag? Sure Vick is allegedly slated to return to action but he’s been on the sidelines for some time now and well how effective is he going to be remains to be seen.

Price matters and at +180 NFL odds, Giants seem to be a deal too good an NFL pick to pass up. Sure, they have been off colour this season and Manning has been turning over the ball at a ridiculous rate. Yet they are flush off a big win over Vikings, in which they held Adrian Peterson to just a paltry 28 yards while rushing 13 times. While it’s just a game, how they played it augurs well for them against an Eagles outfit that boasts one of the worst pass defences.

Pittsburgh Steelers -2.5 @ Oakland Raiders +2.5

Analysis

The football betting market on this game is rather interesting. Very little separates these two outfits in terms of their seasons – both are off pace and trailing in the league. Yet, the Steelers have this game cornered. There is a reason for this price; that is, despite their 2-4 record on the season, which includes a 1-2 mark away, the Steelers are coming off two straight wins and a bye week. Clearly, this newfound momentum has odds makers feeling somewhat confident about the Steelers at the expense of the Raiders.

Oakland Raiders are tipped as the 2.5-point dogs on the spread and the +110 underdogs to win at home over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Granted, they are 2-4 overall this season and 2-1 at home. However, they are better than their record suggests when you consider the fact that three of their defeats came to only the best NFL offerings this season – Broncos, Chiefs and Colts. Add to that the fact that Tyrrelle Pryor got much needed rest and recovery time during a bye week as well as Darren McFadden, Raiders should be raring to go.

Sportsbooks are correct to tip this game close as both sides boast solid defences, stop the run well and neither runs up high scores in any given game (save for few exceptions). But contrary to the market, we’re plumping down to a home win by the Raiders as our value free pick.
