The NFL odds for the match-up between the Miami Dolphins and the Pittsburgh Steelers are out. Who should we be backing with our free picks here?

Not even head coach Mike Tomlin trying to interfere with a player on the field against the Baltimore Ravens could sway things Pittsburgh’s way as the Steelers (5-7) lost a “must win” game. Pittsburgh looks to keep their faint playoff hopes alive as they face the Miami Dolphins (6-6) in Pittsburgh.

Kick-off is set for 1:00 pm ET on Sunday at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and can be seen locally on the CBS Network.

Bet 365 Sportsbook lists the NFL odds for the Steelers at a 3 point betting favorite and the total for the game is 41.

Wild Card Implications

Currently, after an impressive victory over the Jets, the Dolphins sit in the number 7 spot, but have the same record as the Ravens, who currently reside in the number 6 spot. Pittsburgh is in a definite must win situation as they’re on the outside looking in, holding down the number 9 spot.

If there’s anyone that can pull off a miracle, it would be two-time defending Super Bowl Champion, Ben Roethlisberger. After a horrendous start to the season, the Steelers have actually been the better team of these two teams and home-field advantage in the cold Pittsburgh weather of December could play a possible role in this game.

Ready To Apologize?

Let’s just get this over with because there’s been a lot of talk about Pittsburgh head coach, Mike Tomlin. As he saw his the Steelers playoff hopes slipping away against Baltimore, Tomlin claimed that he“accidentally” got too close to kickoff-returner/wide receiver Jacoby Jones as Jones was about to “break one”. Tomlin’s abrupt movement caused Jones to step to the right, lose his momentum, and was taken down and cost Baltimore 6 points on the board at the time. The truth is that Tomlin purposely tried to disrupt the action; enough said.

Roethlisberger To Brown

The combination of Big Ben to Antonio Brown has been a hook-up that’s worked well all season long for the Steelers and look for Roethlisberger to seek out the star wide receiver in this ball game.

Before the emergence of running back Le’Veon Bell, Roethlisberger had been looking to pass more than ever before in his illustrious career. On the season, Roethlisberger has thrown for 3375 yards and 21 touchdowns and Antonio Brown leads the Steelers with 85 receptions for 1103 yards and 6 touchdowns.

Look for Ben Roethlisberger to integrate the rushing game into the offense as it has been working well the last two weeks. Bell has rushed for 153 yards and 1 touchdown in his last 2 games and this has created the element of surprise for opposing defenses. Look for Pittsburgh to come strong out of the gates as they are playing for their playoff lives.

Freebie For the Fins

Thanks to the inexperience of Geno Smith, the Miami Dolphins are coming off of an easy 23-3 victory over Rex Ryan and the Jets at MetLife Stadium. The Jets simply are a team that over-estimated themselves while Miami capitalized and played a strong game on the offensive and defensive sides of the football.

Quarterback, Ryan Tannehill is coming off of his 2nd consecutive 300 plus yard passing game with the help of Brian Hartline and Mike Wallace and could propose a problem for Pittsburgh. Wallace is facing his former team and is sure to be targeted often. If Lamar Miller can have a respectable showing running the ball, this could be a tight ball game.

5-7 is ugly, but the Steelers have played well as of late. A sub-par record could still earn a wild card berth in the AFC and expect Pittsburgh to come out strong in this game. 3 points isn’t a lot to lay when you’re siding with Ben Roethlisberger against a Miami team that hasn’t proven anything. Take the Steelers, for your NFL picks, as their backs are against the wall.
