After a standout 2014 account by the Cowboys, in which they exceeded expectations, Vegas bookies respond by projecting 9.5 win total. Can they deliver or is the bar set too high in 2015? We preview the NFL schedule and serve up game-by-game predictions and picks.

Cowboys Look to Build on 2014
After depositing a 12-4 account and winning the NFC East title, the Cowboys enter 2015 with significantly higher expectations placed on them. The overriding question in NFL betting circles is whether the Cowboys can deliver or will they take a step back in 2015?

Last season's win totals were set to a modest 7.5 at most sportsbooks and, admittedly, we had them underperforming in our NFL predictions. Yup, we were amongst those that felt the Cowboys were pretenders and not contenders after finishing the 2013 season 8-8 and sitting out the playoffs. Well, there's us told.

If there is one thing the Cowboys have going for them in 2015 it's a favorable NFL schedule that ranks 24th and boasts a 0.467 winning percentage. That's lower than last year's 18th ranked NFL schedule that boasted a 0.488 winning percentage. Over and above that they also have a veteran quarterback  who spearheads one of the best offensive lines in the NFL and one of the best wide receivers in Dez Bryant.

Unlike last season, though, they'll be feeling the pressure to replicate their performance, if not do better. That can work both ways for any team. Which way will it send the Cowboys remains to be seen, especially as we are a long way away from the NFL season kicking off and there are still too many unknowns. Nevertheless, we're going to take a stab at making some bold predictions for the Cowboys' season win totals.

Here goes...

Week 1: vs. NY Giants (home), Sunday, Sept 13 at 8:30 PM
A divisional rivalry to open the season on isn't ideal. Faced with instant pressure as divisional bragging rights are put on the line, it could go either way. Based on last season's accounts of both the Cowboys and Giants separately, the balance tips in favor of the Cowboys. Obviously, they had the stellar 12-4 SU season while the Giants had an underwhelming 6-10 SU season; their second straight underwhelming account in the NFL. Yet, the Cowboys were only 4-4 SU at home after losing to the Niners in their season opener last year, as well as the Redskins, Cardinals and Eagles. So this isn't going to be as straightforward as some NFL bettors might initially expect perhaps and given the weight of expectation is going to be on the Cowboys with a home start on Primetime TV, don't be surprised if the nerves and excitement get to them. This might not be the popular NFL pick, but we're going with an opening loss.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record: 0-1

Week 2: vs. Philadelphia (road), Sunday, Sept 20 at 4:25 PM
The Cowboys descend on the Philadelphia Eagles in week 2 NFL betting, marking a second straight divisional game to start the season on. Last year, the Cowboys lost at home to the Eagles 33-10, but won 38-27 on the road in week 15 NFL betting. In the second straight week, the Cowboys will be under the cosh, this time because of their stellar road run last season, replicating which is going to be a tough ask. We don't see another 8-0 SU run on the road actually. And we're beginning with this particular matchup as the scene of its demise for our NFL picks. What's more, DeMarco Murray, leading rusher in the NFL last season, left the Cowboys in free agency for the greener pastures of the Eagles. All part of a complete overhaul by Chip Kelly. It should be an interesting reunion with his old teammates on the opposite sideline.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record: 0-2

Week 3: vs. Atlanta (home), Sunday, Sept 27 at 1 PM
It's hard to say what to expect from the Atlanta Falcons this season considering the changes they've undergone, particularly in coaching. What we do know, there's a lot of talent especially on offense on this team. This could be a right shootout at AT&T Stadium, but the Cowboys finally get into the win column on our NFL picks as they settle into the NFL season.

NFL Picks: Win
Record: 1-2

Week 4: vs. New Orleans (road), Sunday, Oct 4 at 8:30 PM
New Orleans are coming off an unforgettable season, in which they struggled both at home (3-5) and on the road (4-4). It's going to be interesting to see how well Drew Brees and Company bounce back this season; the Superdome is usually their fortress and a hostile place for opponents. This should be a shootout between two gunslingers of the game, but the Cowboys have a little bit more talent than the Saints do right now and that should see them finish the job with a road win.

NFL Picks: Win
Record: 2-2

Week 5: vs. New England (home), Sunday, Oct 11 at 4:25 PM
Arguably, this is going to be the toughest game on the NFL schedule if Tom Brady comes into town. As it is, the future Hall of Fame quarterback is suspended for this game (part of a four-game suspension for the Deflategate Scandal), unless appealed successfully. Assuming it's Garoppolo that will be staring down the Cowboys at the AT&T Stadium, the Cowboys will surely fancy their chances and thank their lucky stars...

NFL Picks: Win
Record: 3-2

Week 6: Bye

Week 7: vs. NY Giants (road), Sunday, Oct  25 at 4:25 PM
As the Cowboys come off a week 6 bye, they head to the Big Apple for a second date with divisional rivals Giants. The Cowboys have won three in a row at MetLife Stadium, including a high-octane 31-28 win last season. If this billing lives up to the rivalry, it should be another showdown. It could go either way, but the Cowboys will be rested and that might be a slight advantage.

NFL Picks: Win
Record: 4-2

Week 8: vs. Seattle (home), Sunday, Nov 1 at 4:25 PM
One word: Payback. Last season, the Cowboys stunned NFL bettors with a 30-22 win in Seattle. The Seahawks will be coming to AT&T to settle the score, surely.

It may surprise some NFL bettors to learn that the Seahawks have lost three in a row in Dallas, prompting the question whether this is a bad matchup for the 2013 Super Bowl champions? Perhaps. But one has to believe Pete Carroll will figure out how to beat the Cowboys finally. The Seahawks will be playing their second straight road game, after a trip to San Francisco in week 7 NFL betting. They'll also be faced with the prospect of a bye win week 9 and will want to go into the break on a positive, winning note. Seattle snaps the negative trend in Dallas and takes the road win.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record: 4-3

Week 9: vs. Philadelphia (home), Sunday, Nov 8 at 8:30 PM
This is a tough midseason stretch for the Dallas Cowboys, with several minefields strewn along the way such as the Eagles, a second divisional rivalry in three weeks. Divisional games are typically close and it doesn't help matters that the Legion of Boom only just left AT&T Stadium and, probably, took a lot out of them. Still, the Cowboys find a way to defeat Murray and the Eagles at the AT&T Stadium to improve to 5-3 on the season.

NFL Picks: Win
Record: 5-3

Week 10: vs. Tampa Bay (road), Sunday, Nov 15 at 1 PM
Finally, a game that looks winnable on paper for the Cowboys. Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off an unmemorable 2014 account that marked Lovie Smith's first season as  the head coach. The Bucs could enjoy a slight turnaround in 2015, with all their NFL draft additions and positive improvements. But this is a team in rebuilding mode and the Cowboys are vastly superior and the established entity in the league. Can there be anything but a Cowboys win on your NFL picks?

NFL Picks: Win
Record: 6-3

Week 11: vs. Miami (road), Sunday, Nov 22 at 1 PM
This is going to be a tough game for the Cowboys to win on the road. On the defensive side of the ball, the Dolphins loom large. Ndamukong Suh will be eagerly waiting for the Dallas Cowboys in Miami when they make this trek in week 11 NFL betting. The last time Suh saw the Cowboys was in the NFL playoffs, the wild card round which the Cowboys won over the Lions 24-20.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record: 6-4

Week 12: vs. Carolina (home), Thursday, Nov 26 at 4:30 PM
The Cowboys return to the AT&T Stadium for a Thanksgiving date with the Carolina Panthers. Is the short turnaround going to be a problem for the Cowboys? It could especially since they are coming off a road trip. Cam Newton is a dynamic quarterback, not unlike Russell Wilson. He could pose a lot of problems for the Cowboys' defense. Overall, though the Cowboys have the slight edge on paper and should edge the victory.

NFL Picks: Win
Record: 7-4

Week 13: vs. Washington (road), Monday, Dec 7 at 8:30 PM
The Washington Redskins aren't a great team by any stretch of the imagination and they've disappointed their fans to no end. Yet, when they play the Cowboys it can be special. It's a divisional rivalry that seems to get the best out of them; hence, it's earned a spot on Monday's Primetime football schedule. Last season, the Redskins beat the Cowboys 20-17 in OT on the road in week 8 NFL betting. On the last day of the season, they succumbed to a 44-17 loss, which marked the eighth road win of the season for the Cowboys. Given all the question marks that surround the Redskins this season, the smart NFL pick has to the Cowboys you'd think.

NFL Picks: Win
Record: 8-4

Week 14: vs. Green Bay (road), Sunday, Dec 13 at 4:25 PM
It's an NFL playoff rematch between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys, a game Cowboys fans will have circled on the calendar after the controversial ruling that left them feelling an injustice was done against them in the NFL playoffs. This is going to be all about payback for the Cowboys. Unfortunately, they'll be on the road. Lambeau is a tough place to take a win. Never mind in the middle of December when temperatures are sure to be freezing. As appealing as the idea of payback is, we simply can't bet against Aaron Rodgers on our NFL picks when he's playing at Lambeau.

NFL Picks: Loss
Record: 8-5

Week 15: vs. NY Jets (home), Saturday, Dec 19 at 8:25 PM
The Cowboys entertain the NY Jets in week 15 NFL betting at AT&T, for a game they should win handily. The Jets have question marks that are yet unanswered at quarterback: will it be Geno Smith? Veteran Ryan Fitzptrick or Bryce Petty. It's not going to be an easy game, but the Cowboys should be looking to book a spot in the NFL playoffs at this point in the season and they'll need this game in the win column.

NFL Picks: Win
Record: 9-5

Week 16: vs. Buffalo (road), Sunday, Dec 27 at 1 PM
A trip to Buffalo in the middle of December isn't very desirable. Will they be snowed out and forced to play elsewhere? Who knows. Anything can happen. What we do know is that on the offensive side of the ball, the Cowboys are much better than the Bills. They live and die by their defense. Look for Tony Romo to outdo EJ Manuel (or whoever is playing quarterback for the Bills at this point).

NFL Picks: Win
Record: 10-5

Week 17: vs. Washington (home), Sunday, Jan 3  at 1 PM
For a second straight season, the Cowboys close against the Redskins. This time they do it at home before their loyal fans. Last year, the Cowboys won 44-17 to crush the Redskins in week 17 NFL betting. Look for Tony Romo and Company to put on a show as they sweep the series with the Redskins and finish the season strong.

NFL Picks: Win
Record: 11-5

NFL Betting Verdict
As you can see by our humble estimations, we have the Cowboys finishing the season at a best 10-6 or 11-5 SU. It's not as great as last season's 12-4 record, but certainly OVER the 9.5 season win totals projected across sports betting platforms. Take the Over 9.5 at -130 on the NFL odds for your NFL picks.
