After a playoff season in 2012, and an offseason that saw them improve themselves almost as much as any team in the NFL this offseason, the Bengals find themselves as co-favorites to win the AFC North.

The Bengals are +190 at LVH Sportsbook in Las Vegas to win the division this season, that’s tied with both the Steelers and the defending champion Ravens. With the NFL future odds that close of a call, do the Bengals or any other team in the division have value?

The Bengals were a nice surprise in 2012 ATS, as they ended up 10-6 SU and 9-7-1 ATS overall including the playoffs. Their main weapon of value was the Bengals after win. The week after getting a SU win, the Bengals were 7-3 ATS in those ten games. They were also one of the better road ATS teams in the NFL in 2012, going 6-3 ATS on the road.

A smaller market like Cincinnati is not likely to get a lot of attention, and I believe that is almost always a good thing for a team’s offseason future odds value. In fact after all the upgrades they have made, along with the still obvious holes and flaws of the Steelers and Ravens, I think the Bengals are the team with the value in the 2013 AFC North divisional NFL future odds.

Even though they were 3-3 SU against their division last season, the Bengals have not regressed like their older divisional counterparts, and during a long season with injured, the older bodies tend to break down first.

At first glance at the Bengals this offseason, I thought they might be a little bit overvalued. That was before the draft, but now I am starting to change my mind a little bit seeing how things are starting to take shape in that division. They are 16/1 to win the AFC, and a flier bet on that might even be in order, but I’m getting ahead of myself.

The Bengals will get tested early, as their first three games are against the Bears on the road, the Steelers at home and then the Packers at home the following week. We too will get a great look at what kind of value the Bengals will hold in those first three games, and I think they will likely still be undervalued a bit.

Even though I still believe this is a favorites year to win the Super Bowl, I would be willing to take the Bengals at just under 2/1 to win the division, considering the other two teams in the division are one bad injury away from knocking themselves out of contention. The Bengals already have their offense clicking, and if their defense has improved like I think it has, they should also be once again a solid bet ATS this season. The Bengals were undervalued last year, as they went 5-3-1 ATS as favorites last season, and I see similar style value coming this year as well. Keep the Bengals in mind for your NFL Picks next season.
