Mike McCoy’s San Diego Chargers squad heads east on a short rest, visiting the Jacksonville Jaguars for Week 7's NFL Sunday. What are the smart sports betting plays to be made in this game?

The San Diego Chargers moved to 4-1-1 ATS with Monday’s 19-9 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, cashing as one-point home favorites.

Chargers, Cox hold off Colts

San Diego kept the Colts out of the end zone in Monday’s triumph, holding Indianapolis to 267 total yards. Chargers cornerback Derek Cox grabbed his season’s first interception, while uniting with linebacker Manti Te’o for five tackles each.

San Diego’s Philip Rivers connected 22-of-33 passes for 237 yards, with wide out Keenan Allen logging a season-high nine catches. Rivers’ backfield mate Ryan Mathews broke the century barrier for the first time, dashing for 102 yards on 22 carries.

The tight affair’s combined 28 points plunged below the ‘total’ of 50.5, cashing for my followers backing the ‘Under’. Chargers placekicker Nick Novak connected 4-of-4 field goals, capped off by a 50-yard strike in the battle’s final two minutes.

Jaguars collect in Denver

Jacksonville picked up its first ATS cover in Sunday’s 35-19 defeat to the Denver Broncos, holding on to cash as a 26.5-point road dog. Jaguars wide out Justin Blackmon came away with 14 catches from quarterback Chad Henne, racking up 190 receiving yards.

Henne tossed two interceptions in a 27-for-42 day under center, while Jacksonville’s Maurice Jones-Drew rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown. The Jaguars were flagged for seven penalties (62 yards), while giving up 407 total yards.

Jacksonville’s Paul Posluszny picked off Denver’s Peyton Manning in the second quarter, pulling his squad to a 14-12 deficit with a touchdown return. The contest’s combined 54 points inched above the closing ‘total’ of 53, lifting the ‘Over’ to 3-1 in the Jaguars’ last four weeks of action.

Back the ‘Under’ in Jacksonville

The NFL odds opened San Diego as a seven-point road favorite, while first listing the ‘total’ at 45. Early wagers on the Chargers and ‘Over’ drove the numbers north to 7.5 and 45.5, respectively, at the sportsbooks.

I am adding the ‘Under’ in this duel to Sunday’s NFL picks, looking for a low-key affair between these foes.

San Diego has been held to 17 PPG in its last two road contests, with the ‘Under’ collecting at 2-0. The Chargers’ defense also showed improvement in Monday’s stingy win, allowing Indianapolis inside the red zone just once.

Jacksonville continues to rank last in the league for scoring (11.7 PPG) and total yards (270.2 YPG). Gus Bradley’s squad has failed to score a touchdown in either of its first two home contests, while ‘Under’ backers are riding a 6-0 streak in the Jaguars’ last six duels at EverBank Field.

The Jags’ defense has had its share of loose affairs, but catching Rivers and Co. shifting coasts on a short week should give some chances for three-and-out’s. For your sports picks, look for Jacksonville to tighten up here, with ‘Under’ cashing at 5-2 in the team’s last seven games that followed a spot of allowing over 30 points.
