All eyes will be on second-year quarterbacks Andrew Luck and Brandon Weeden Saturday, as the Indianapolis Colts prepare to host the Cleveland Browns.

Let’s take a closer look at the NFL betting odds for this AFC matchup in Week 3 of the 2013 preseason at Lucas Oil Stadium, with the opening kick-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET. Who are we considering for our NFL picks

Looking good

Cleveland has won and covered the number in its first two games, which includes a 24-6 victory over the Detroit Lions as 1.5-point home favorites last Thursday, while going ‘Under’ the betting total of 42.5.

The Browns offense did suffer a major injury in their latest affair, with running back Dion Lewis going down with a broken left fibula. He was expected to be a big weapon, especially on third down in first-year offensive coordinator Norv Turner’s system.

Bouncing back

NFL handicappers were expecting a bounce-back performance from the Colts after owner Jim Irsay complained about his team’s performance on Twitter in suffering a blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills in its opener.

Indianapolis responded by picking up a 20-12 victory over the New York Giants as two-point road underdogs Sunday, while going ‘Under’ the betting total of 41.

Weeden continues to improve

Turner has built a reputation of having one of the best offensive minds in football, which will only help in the development of signal-caller Brandon Weeden, who is expected to start under center for a second consecutive year since being taken in the first round of the 2012 NFL draft.

The Browns first-team offense has scored two field goals and three touchdowns in Weeden’s six series through two games.

All about the defense

I’m expecting a big improvement from Indianapolis on the defensive side of the football in 2013, as it transitioned from a 4-3 to 3-4 scheme last season—even without head coach Chuck Pagano being around for much of the year due to his battle with leukemia.

The Colts played solid red-zone defense and tallied six sacks in their victory over the Giants.

I’m going to recommend that, for their sports picks, readers play the ‘Under’ in this affair, as the number is certainly inflated with much of the focus being placed on Weeden and Colts quarterback Andrew Luck.
