Even so, as valiant as the Chargers have been, it feels like there’s a real difference in quality between these two teams. What do the betting lines say about this match-up?

The San Diego Chargers have been close, but no cigar many times this season. Think back: they blew a big lead against Houston in Week 1, lost on a last-second play in Tennessee and couldn’t punch the ball in from the half-yard line in Washington last week. Realistically, they could be 7-1 with the same record as the Denver Broncos, who they host this week.

Denver Broncos @ San Diego Chargers

Odds: Broncos -7.5

The Broncos can win because…

The Chargers haven’t played anyone. Sure, the Chargers could be 7-1 but let’s take a look at who they’ve played. Aside from the teams mentioned above, they have wins over Jacksonville, Philadelphia and Dallas. Other than a good win over Indianapolis, the Chargers haven’t proven themselves.

The Broncos are coming off of their bye week and they are going to be crisp. Heading into the bye, the offense appeared to be a bit out of sync. However, people who make their sports picks know that quarterback Peyton Manning was dealing with some ankle issues. Now that he’s had some rest, he’s going to have a field day against a secondary that was torched by Robert Griffin and the Redskins last week. The Chargers are also going to be stinging after such a tough loss and they are not in the right mind set as they prepare for their toughest opponent to date.

What is going on with the Week 10 Betting Odds Report?

The Chargers can win because…

Who knows what the Broncos are going to do. On one hand, we assume that they’ll be crisp after a bye week but they were pretty sloppy heading into it. On top of that, they’ll be without head coach John Fox after he underwent heart surgery during the off week.

The Chargers have been a very competitive team this season thanks to the MVP-like contributions from Philip Rivers. Few people will notice but Rivers leads the league with a 72.2 completion percentage and is third – only behind Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers – in quarterback rating (106.5.). He’s done a great job on third downs this year, completing short passes, moving the chains and keeping his offense on the field. If he can just get some support from Ryan Mathews in this game, the Chargers should have a shot to win.

Manning gets the acclaim but Rivers has been every bit as good with lesser weapons. That’s why the Chargers are a good bet for your NFL picks this week.

Outlook & NFL Football Betting Prediction:

The Chargers have endured a lot of injuries and now that they are facing quality teams, it’s starting to show. Last week, they gave up 209 rushing yards and had no answers in the secondary either. Going up against a fresh, rested Broncos offense isn’t going to help.

The Chargers have been competitive all season long but this is too tall an order. Unless the Broncos play half asleep in the first half like they did against Indianapolis and Washington, expect them to roll through San Diego, cover the NFL odds and leave with a comfortable win.
