Minnesota Vikings Look To Finish Perfect
Minnesota Vikings are riding an eight-game winning streak in the preseason since last term, a run of form they look to extend in the final lap of the exhibition games on Thursday when they take on the Tennessee Titans. Curiously, though, odds makes aren’t giving it to them. Instead, rolling out an NFL betting line with the Vikings matched as the 2.0-point underdogs. What?
By the numbers, the Vikings put up 88 points and conceded just 45 points, which yields an average of 22-points per game scored and just 11.25 points allowed against. Such positive stats suggest the Vikings are solid on both sides of the ball. This in turn has led many NFL bettors and experts alike to describe them as a team in mid-season form, potentially a team to spot in the NFC North as well as the NFC proper.
We’re not going to go that far. It’s the preseason, after all, and not all teams take the exhibition round too seriously. Case-and-point: the Steelers and Cowboys, two of the teams the Vikings beat, hardly played their starters in the corresponding games so those wins have to be taken within that context. The remaining wins over the Buccaneers and Raiders featured two of last season’s dunces, meaning the takeaways are debatable.
On the bright side, the quarterback front, Teddy Bridgewater looks poised to pick up from where he left off in his rookie season, after leading the Vikings to a 7-9 SU record. And the team as whole from top to bottom, from starters to backups, is playing strong. What this amounts to is a very good NFL pick as the 2.0-point underdogs.
Tennessee Titans Home Favorites
The Tennessee Titans opened the preseason with a 31-24 loss on the road to the Falcons. In week 2, they bounced back with a 27-14 win over the Rams at home, but the following week they were steamrolled by the Chiefs 34-10 at Arrowhead.
This means the Titans are 1-2 SU and ATS going into week 4 NFL preseason betting, with their lone win coming up against a side that seems not to have figured out its offensive identity yet. They’ve put up just 61 points and conceded79 points for a -18-point differential.
Overall, things don’t look too promising for the Titans in the coming season, not least for rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota who still has a lot to learn and adjust to. On both sides of the ball there are still many issues. So much so that it’s really surprising to have the Titans favored quite so much against the Vikings.
NFL Betting Verdict
As far as preseason goes, the Vikings have been the more convincing side. Whether that yields to a promising NFL season remains to be seen. They went 4-0 SU last year but finished 7-9 SU in the regular season. And this year they have one of the toughest NFL schedules according to DVOA rankings. But that’s neither here nor there where week 4 of the preseason is concerned. Take the Vikings as the tempting 2-point road underdogs to roll over the Titans and finish on a positive note.
