We’re going to take an early look at Sunday’s NFL contest between Miami and Tennessee. Go inside to read our highly informative betting preview article which culminates with a point spread pick.
Dolphins visit “The Music City”
Tennessee (1-3) hosts Miami (1-3) this coming Sunday in a battle of teams on three game losing streaks. The opening kickoff at LP Field in Nashville is slated for 1:00 PM ET. Current (10/12) NFL betting odds indicate that Tennessee is either a 2.5 or 3.0 point favorite, and the total ranges from 43.5 to 44.0. This will be the first meeting between these teams since 2012.
Battle of Desperate Teams
The Miami Dolphins opened the season with a win at Washington, and since then have gone a dismal 0-3 SU&ATS. They last played a week ago Sunday in London, and lost to the Jets 27-14 while also failing to cover as a 3.0 point underdog. Miami was a popular preseason pick to challenge New England in the AFC East, and were thought to be a legitimate playoff contender. They’ve hardly resembled those ambitious predictions so far, and their head coach was fired after only four games. There’s still a long way to go, but the Dolphins listlessness, lack of productivity in all aspects of their game, and character are certainly in need of a facelift. That will have to be inspired by their new interim head coach Dan Campbell.
Learning how to Win
The Tennessee Titans began the season with an impressive 42-14 road win at Tampa Bay. The optimism has at least temporarily been subsided as a result of three straight losses. The last two of those defeats came at home by narrow margins of 35-33 to Indianapolis, and then 14-13 against Buffalo this past Sunday. They blew a double digit second half lead in each of those contests. It may seem a bit cliché when describing a young team attempting to get over the hump, but I’m going to say it anyway. They need to learn how to win. Miami coming to town may be just what the doctor ordered. Unlike Tennessee, Miami has been outscored the last two weeks by a cumulative margin of 68-28.
Marcus Mariota has certainly garnered a lot of praise for his performance during the Titans first four games, and rightfully so. However, I’m just as impressed with their play on the defensive side. Tennessee has held opponents to 274 yards or less in three of their first four games. They will be facing an underachieving Dolphins offense which has scored just 14 points in each of their last two games. The much heralded Miami defense has been awful during their current losing streak, allowing 396 yards or more in each of those three games. Miami has also shown no semblance of a running attack, rushing for a paltry average of 69 yards per game thus far.
I’m going to have an early lean toward the younger and hungrier home team for one of my NFL picks.
