Seattle Seahawks -3.5 @ Carolina Panthers
One of the popular teams with the NFL betting public this year is the Seattle Seahawks, they have an exciting young quarterback in Russell Wilson, a high energy coach in Pete Carroll and quite possibly the best defense in the NFL.
Wilson is entering his second year in the league and with that will come more trust with the offense. With all of that attention however comes expectations and that is something that Carroll knows very well from his days in Southern California.
Carroll has completely changed with the culture in Seattle, with meditation, yoga, and no yelling or swearing Carroll and the Seahawks believe that the kinder, gentler philosophy is the way to the Lombardi trophy. Pete Carroll has three decrees that his team lives by 1. Protect the team 2. No whining, complaining, or excuses 3. Be early.
The Seahawks have a dominant defense, a quarterback and coach attached at the hip, an elite running back and a surprisingly deep receiving corp. The Panthers on the other hand have Cam Newton and a decent defense. Carolina is overmatched all over the field, their best asset is their young emerging defense but even that is overshadowed by the Defense Seattle brings to the table.
Don’t overthink this game, Seattle is traveling across the country to Carolina and though Seattle is a favorite with the majority of the public, the line has not moved. That being said, this is one that Vegas got wrong. Seattle is 4-0 in their last 4 away games, and 6-1 in their last 7 games overall. Betting odds wise, Carolina is 2-5 against the spread in their last 7 home games.
Seattle demolished every obstacle set in front of them this preseason and while the preseason is not a great indicator of how a team will perform when the lights are bright and the chips are down but their dominance cannot be denied. Seattle is deeper, they have the better coach, the better line on both sides of the ball, the better running back, the better team.
