The Texans had a very sloppy start to 2015 as they were blown out by the Chiefs. Now they go on the road to face an odds favorite Carolina Panthers team. Which side is best for your NFL picks Week 2?
Opening Odds & Line Movement
We’ve seen a bit of line movement in the Texans-Panthers game in favor of the Panthers. It takes a significant amount of action to move the line off of three but that’s what we’ve seen here. The logic seems to be that Carolina is at home here, which is a notable edge, and we have a Texans team here on the road that clearly has some quarterback problems. Whether it’s Ryan Mallett or Brian Hoyer, the team seemed to be overmatched by a good defense last week and now they’ve got another one on tap. On top of that, remember that they’re playing without Arian Foster in the lineup, so it makes sense that bettors don’t trust this team taking a struggling offense on the road.
As mentioned, Foster is out, which is a big blow for the Texans. Meanwhile, left tackle Duane Brown is dealing with a thumb injury but he’s expected to play through the pain. Tight end Ryan Griffin has a sprained knee and will be out a few weeks.
For the Panthers, tackle Daryl Williams is out with a sprained knee (two-to-four-weeks). Linebacker Luke Kuechly suffered a concussion in the opener but returned mid-game to help lead the Panthers defense. Nothing too serious that will affect NFL picks.
The Texans have been a decent bet on the road recently as they’ve covered three of their last four on the road (with one push). They’ve also done a good job of bouncing back, covering four of their last five after losing outright the previous week.
As for the Panthers, they are 17-7-1 ATS in their last 15 against teams with a losing record. They feasted on these types of teams down the stretch last season and did it again in Week 1. They’re also doing a good job covering the NFL odds at home, covering 11 of their last 17 (with a push).
