For a second straight week the Packers are installed as the road faves against an undefeated team. Will the Packers deliver at the expense of the Carolina Panthers or will the hosts defy the NFL odds?

Green Bay Packers (6-1, 2-1 away)
The Green Bay Packers fell well short of expectations in a 29-10 loss to the Denver Broncos at Mile High on Sunday Night Football. Now, as they are tasked similarly in week 9 NFL betting, installed as the 2.5-to-3-point road chalk, the obvious question is whether they can come through this time around.

In last Sunday’s loss, the Broncos stifled Aaron Rodgers and company in a big way. It was rather unsettling to witness just how easily the Broncos took them apart on national television and how they held Rodgers to a career worst 77 yards. After the game, Mike McCarthy described it best when he said they’d got their ‘ass kicked’ plain and simple. The Broncos were better overall, played faster and never let up on the pressure they exerted on Rodgers and his O-line.

Fortunately, that account can be neatly brushed aside by giving credit to the league’s best defense. It’s not that the Packers were bad inasmuch the Broncos were just too good. It’s obvious that’s exactly what the odds makers are doing,. Otherwise, why else would they send the Packers into their second straight road game against yet another undefeated side as the road faves? They’re not gluttons for punishment after all.

Carolina Panthers (7-0, 4-0 home)
Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers have put together a season that defies pre-season expectations and seems to be surprising everybody except for the Panthers themselves. Newton has made no secret about how much he’s enjoying winning and he’d like nothing better than to continue to do so. Unfortunately, odds makers don’t share in his enthusiasm. Instead, they seem to be suggesting that this is the game in which the Panthers will stub their toes.  (Wonder if he got the memo?)

The Panthers are 7-0 SU and 5-2 ATS on the season with a 7.9-point margin of victory. If we go back to last season’s winning run down the stretch that lifted them to the NFC South title and send them into the playoffs, they are enjoying an 11-game winning streak.

To be fair the first four games of the season pit them against rather dubious opponents: Jaguars, Texans, Saints and Bucs. The last three were against household names: Seahawks, Eagles and Colts. That said, it’s worth noting that none of these seven outfits boasts a record above .500 on the season, not even the last three that were probably shaded on many a Super Bowl 50 NFL picks in early NFL betting markets.

So are the Panthers really as good as their record is or are they only as good as their opponents are bad. That’s the question that this matchup Is sure to answer, if nothing else. The Green Bay Packers are the first side –both at home and on the road – that brings a solid record on the season and which until last week was also undefeated.

NFL Betting Verdict
It’s understandable why the Packers are the road faves in this game. Simply put, they are deemed the better team by most NFL analysts and experts on both sides of the ball. There’s the small matter about the Packers being fallible on the road, which could make it for a less than sure play on your NFL picks. But the caveat that most NFL~ers are hanging their hats on cancels that notion out: Packers are 14-0 in their last 14 games following a loss. Last weekend’s loss was as brutal as it was ugly to watch. So thorough and complete it was that it’s sure not to sit well with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. That’s why we’re expecting the Packers to come out swinging in Charlotte, not only to gain redemption for their fans but respect in the NFC by derailing the only undefeated team left in their Conference.

With the NFL odds trading from 2.5-to3-points from sportsbook to sportsbook, it’s clear the expectations is for a close game. We’re of a mind of taking the full field goal on our NFL picks with the added juice as we think the Packers might run away with this game.
