New York Jets and Tennessee Titans clash in week 15 NFL betting, a game set delicately on a tight NFL betting line. Which side of the coin offers the best angle for profit? Find out as we weigh in on the NFL odds and deliver our NFL betting verdict.
New York Jets (2-11, 0-6 away)
The New York Jets are riding a three-game losing streak having lost to Buffalo, Miami and Minnesota. Yet, they enter week 15 NFL betting as the distinct road favourites matched at -130 NFL odds to win straight up and as the 2.0-point road chalk. Clearly, odds makers fancy the Jets to clinch their third win of the season.
Since coming off a week 10 bye, the Jets have struggled on offense behind the inconsistent play of both Geno Smith and Michael Vick. They only managed three points against the Bills in a blowout 38-3 loss and they only mustered up 13 points in a 16-13 loss to Miami the following week.
That said, week 14 NFL betting saw the Jets come-from-behind to tie the game with the Vikings and force overtime, before losing 30-24. It was the first time they accounted for 20-plus points since their 20-13 win over the Steelers in week 10 NFL betting. They could have won the game as well had it not been for Rex Ryan's poor decision-making in overtime that led to Jarius Wright's 87-yard reception from Teddy Bridgewater, the second-longest passing touchdown in overtime history.
Still, they accounted for 410 yards of total offense, the second highest output this season, which included 242 yards passing and 168 yards rushing. Indeed, the Jets rushing offense is second in the league with 149.7 yards per game. An aspect of their game that augurs well for their date with the Titans, who are the worst against the rush in the league, allowing 141.5 yards per game.
Tennessee Titans (2-11, 1-5 home)
The Tennessee Titans are simply one of the worst teams this season. They are riding a seven-game losing streak into week 15 NFL betting, with no signs of that poor vein of form changing. Making matters worse is the fact that Zach Mettenberger is likely out for the rest of the season and they're going to have to rely on the services of Jake Locker who's as inconsistent and unreliable as they get.
Titans are coming off a woeful account against the New York Giants in week 14 NFL betting, a 36-7 loss at home all while installed at EVEN odds. They allowed the Giants to account for 402 yards of total offense (260 passing and 142 rushing) and countered with just 207 yards of total offense behind 146 passing yards and a paltry 61 rushing yards. So awful was their performance, fans were booing throughout and some even sported paper bags over their heads.
NFL Betting Verdict
Backing the Jets may not have been a profitable exercise this season, but neither has backing the Titans. The Jets are only 2-11 SU after all, 3-9-1 ATS overall with a 10.8-margin of defeat and 1-3-1 ATS on the away with a 12-point margin of defeat. As bad as the Titans are in the broad spectrum of NFL betting with a commensurate 2-11 SU record, 3-9-1 ATS overall with an 11.8-point margin of defeat and 1-4-1 ATS record at home with a 10.2-point margin of defeat. The difference between these two teams, however, is the Jets seem to have finally figured things out over the last few weeks. So long as their coach doesn't blow it of course.
The Jets appear to have come to terms with their quarterback's shortcomings: he'll never be one of the great passers of the game. So they are running the ball more, which is their strength and has been all season long along with a good enough defense. They played the Dolphins close and the Vikings needed overtime to beat them last week. If they continue on that vein against the Titans, who are the worst team in the NFL defending against the rush, they should have success. So take the New York Jets to finally break duck and get a W on the road. What's more, shade the Jets as the mere 2.0-point favourites on your NFL picks to runaway with a big win against the Titans.
