Lions descend on the Redskins in week 2 NFL preseason betting. As it is, the hosts are favored across by bookies, but public betting tips conspicuously towards the Lions. Find out where we’re putting our money.

Detroit Lions Win Preseason Opener
Detroit Lions delivered a convincing performance in their season opener, beating the Jets 23-3. Lions opened as the considerable 3.5-point favourites before closing on 4-points. Clearly, they covered the spread handily.

Matthew Stafford got a short turn on the field. Just a sole possession. But in the short space of time, he threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Golden Tate. Overall, he threw for 57 yards and completed both his pass attempts before sauntering over to the side-lines and giving way to the backups.

To be fair, the Jets were struggling on both sides of the ball and barely put up any resistance. But that shouldn’t take anything away from the Lions’ account. And justifiably they are best pleased about their opening account.

According to the odds makers, however, they are expected to face a much sterner test in Washington. They enter the game as the underdogs, with most sportsbooks trading them at 2.5-points against the spread. The total is set at 40-points, which is a touch higher than week 1’s total that opened at 36 but crept up to 37.5-points by closing doors.

Washington Redskins Edge Cleveland Browns
In week 1 NFL preseason betting, the Washington Redskins edged the Cleveland Browns on the road, marking on the week’s upsets on the NFL odds board. Redskins, opening as the 2-point road underdogs, pulled off the cover in a 20-17 win only just. That said, they did close at some online sports betting shops on a pick’em line.

It wasn’t all good news for the Redskins however. RGIII was modest in his performance, going 4 of 8 passing for 36 yards during two possessions. Kirk Cousins, however, stepped up to the plate when he got his turn on the field and orchestrated the come-from-behind win as he went 12 of 14 for 154 yards and ran for a touchdown.

As it is, the Redskins backup looks promising. RGIII needs to step it up though. Of course, it’s only the preseason and it never is really entirely indicative. Then again, last year RGIII was abominable in the preseason, which, in hindsight, was a precursor to the rest of his forgettable 2014-2015 account, marred though it was with injuries.

On the NFL odds board, Redskins are matched as the 2.5-point home favorites. But do they really deserve to be the favorites against the Detroit Lions, even though they are at home? Lions are coming off a stellar season and looking to build on that form in the coming weeks in order to set themselves up for the 2015-2016 NFL betting season.

Match Betting Tips and Picks
Although NFL odds makers are trading the Lions as the 2.5-point underdogs, public betting trends reveal a conspicuous lean towards the visitors in week 2 NFL betting. And we’re of a similar mind. The Lions look to be in good form and the chemistry between the players is undeniable. The Redskins look just like they did last season, like the dysfunctional crew. Lions went 11-5 SU and 7-9 ATS last season and they won and covered the last three meetings over the Redskins. Take the points with the Lions on the NFL picks.
