Let's focus our attention on what the NFL odds makers are hanging for this week and get out in front it to include them in our Week 8 NFL picks.
Lions (+3 ½) vs. Chiefs
Two of the most disappointing teams of the 2015 season meet in London to play in a game that will be as forgettable as their respective seasons. The Chiefs are the favorites only because they beat the Steelers last week in Kansas City. Wembley Stadium ain't Arrowhead and this one is a coin flip so why not take the points? Play the Lions +3 ½.
Vikings (-1) vs. Bears
I'm not saying the Vikings are Super Bowl contenders but to have the NFL odds makers allowing us to lay one scant point against a team like Chicago? Is something fishy here or are we overlooking the vast potential that is Jay Cutler and Bears? No, no we're not. Play the Vikings -1.
Buccaneers vs. Falcons (-7)
Why is it that Matty Ice and the Falcons are 6-1 straight up and I still feel underwhelmed by it all? Maybe because they've failed to cover the number over their last three games and against teams like the Redskins, Saints and the Titans. Yet they are at home and the Bucs are, well...the Bucs. Lay it and play the Falcons-7.
Giants (+3) vs. Saints
The Giants are my SBR colleague Jordan Sharp's NFL pick of the week. The kid is living up to his name this year and if he's sellin' then I'm buyin'. Play the Giants +3.
49ers vs. Rams (-8)
The 49ers are truly miserable this season but even awful teams can be bet if given enough of a head start by the NFL odds makers. But the team they are facing has a pretty good defense and I think are one of the most underrated teams in the league this season. Play the Rams -8.
Cardinals vs. Browns (+6)
I don't think Arizona is as good offensively or defensively as they demonstrated at the beginning of the season. In the desert you will find plenty of mirages and the Cards are just one. Now before you bet the rent on the home dog this is not necessarily a live home dog. This is simply a subpar team that has enough grit to expose an overrated Arizona team. Nothing more and nothing less. Play the Browns +6 but play them carefully...or don't play them at all.
Bengals vs. Steelers (Pick)
The Bengals are having a dynamite season and are 5-0-1 ATS so how do we decide to bet against them especially after they've enjoyed a bye week? Well, they're on the road in Pittsburgh against a divisional foe that just got their starting All-World quarterback back who has more weapons at his disposal than a Swiss army knife. Big Ben knows how to use his weapons. Play the Steelers at a pick.
Chargers vs. Ravens -3 (-130)
Yet another game featuring spectacularly disappointing teams. The Chargers were supposed to be good this season...again. But they are just so heartless that I have to go with the Ravens here. Bovada.com is the only major book hanging this at -3 (-130) so I say pay the extra juice just in case.
Titans vs. Texans (-4)
Brian Hoyer is the undisputed man in the pocket for the Texans now that Ryan Mallet has been cast off for being a jackass. I know these Texans have let you down, cost you money and have been a shadow of the defense everyone thought we would see. However, don't let all that deter you. The Titans will go without Mariotta on Sunday due to injury which makes this a big fat opportunity for the Houston to get healthy. Play the Texans -4.
Jets (-3) vs. Raiders
The Jets are one of my Week 8 NFL picks of the week which you can read here. Sure they ate a large piece of humble pie last week against the Patriots but that's par for the course and let's not forget they did cover the number. This defense will be too much for Oakland as Amari Cooper will learn first hand what it's like to be blanketed by a premier shutdown corner in Darrelle Revis. Play the Jets -3.
Seahawks vs. Cowboys (+5)
Can't you hear every square in the barroom yakkin' about how Seattle is a lock to beat the Cowboys yet most of them won't have a thin dime bet on the game. Betting the Cowboys is a tough pill to swallow but betting the 3-4 Seahawks on the road and laying points is even more difficult. Hold your nose and bet the Boyz +5.
Packers vs. Broncos (+3)
I know, Peyton Manning is a shadow of his former self, he throws like a chick and has morphed from a game changer to a game manager. I get it already but last time I checked the Broncos still had a top defense and still play in Mile High. Oh, and they're still undefeated and have gone 4-1-1 ATS in NFL picks. Hard to say no to all that. Play the Broncos +3.
Colts +7 vs. Panthers
I'm not convinced this will be a lost season for Andrew Luck or the Colts despite how much evidence they present on a weekly basis nor am I convinced Cam Newton just entered the rarified air of elite QB status. Play the Colts + 7 and watch them hang around.
