Week 12 NFL Betting Recap
Rounding out our NFL picks last week, we went 8-7 ATS to improve our tally to 78-49-1 through nine weeks of this column. Week 13 looms ahead, the beginning of the last push of the season, a time when picking winners can get tough as competition increases. With that in mind, we tackle week 13's NFL odds board.

Bears +7.0 vs. Lions -7.0
Detroit Lions got roughed up in New England last weekend, marking their second straight defeat in as many weeks. The Chicago Bears eked out a victory at the expense of the Bucs, marking their second straight win and cover in as many weeks. Detroit are 3-2 ATS as home favourites this season with a 7-point average margin of victory, largely skewed by the 35-14 win over the Giants in week 1. Chicago have covered three of their six road games as the road underdogs, once as the 7-point road pups in a 28-20 win over the Niners. The Bears clearly have the offensive weapons to give the Lions a run for their money, but they've been somewhat inconsistent from week-to-week. Can you put your money on an offense that can't always be trusted to show up? We can't. So we're putting our money on the Lions' defense showing up and backing the Lions on our NFL picks.

Free NFL Pick: Lions -7.0

Eagles +3.0 vs. Cowboys -3.0
With Mark Sanchez and the Eagles bouncing back after a forgettable outing at Lambeau with a big win over the Titans in week 12 NFL betting, this game, all of a sudden, looks to be a much closer battle. It was always going to be tough game with both teams riding high in the NFC East, tied on first place with an 8-3 SU. Now it looks to be a tossup. Dallas are just 3-3 SU at home this season and 2-4 ATS with a 1.5-point margin of victory. You could say, home advantage is a moot point. Eagles are 2-3 SU and ATS on the road. Considering they've come up against Indianapolis, San Francisco, Arizona, Houston and Green Bay on the road, that record isn't something to scoff at. This game cuts fine, but we're banking on the Eagles as the 3-point underdogs in a game that has huge divisional implications and should be close.

Free NFL Pick: Eagles +3.0

Seahawks +1.0 vs. Niners -1.0
This should be a physical game between two playoff hopefuls on Sunday. Both teams have had a rough go of it this season but, somehow, have emerged 7-4 SU. Niners have the home edge, where they are 5-0 SU against the Seattle Seahawks in their last five meetings in San Francisco, a trend that underscores their NFL odds as the 1-point favourites. The last meeting between this pair resulted in a 19-17 win by the Niners. This game could go either way. Seattle looked really good in the win over the Cardinals, almost as good as they were last season. Egos must have been put aside, finally. Niners persevered against the Redskins in a scrappy affair. They really need to be better though if they hope to make the playoffs. This game could be the litmus test for both teams.

Free NFL Pick: Niners -1.0

Panthers +3.0 vs.  Vikings -3.0
Two teams that are struggling this season collide in a game that has more meaning for the visitors than the hosts. Panthers are 3-7-1 SU on the season, a record that would have a team's season practically done and dusted by this time. Strangely, the entire NFC South is a disappointment and the Panthers could still salvage their season.

Free NFL Pick: Panthers +3.0

Bengals -4.0 vs. Buccaneers +4.0
Bengals head to Tampa Bay as the 4-point road chalk in week 13 NFL betting. Bengals are after back-to-back wins and covers. Bucs, meanwhile, are struggling. They are winless at home in five games and 0-5 ATS. Bengals have righted the ship and are back atop the competitive AFC North division. This is their game to win or lose. Shade the Bengals at -4.0 on your NFL picks.

Free NFL Pick: Bengals -4.0

Browns +2.5 vs. Bills -2.5
This is a tough game to predict. Neither the Browns or the Bills have been receiving the respect they so thoroughly have earned this season. To all intents and purposes, they've punched above their weight class, which makes this an even tougher handicapping prospect on your NFL picks. Browns are 7-4 SU while the Bills are 6-5 SU. Both are coming off pivotal victories in week 12 NFL betting, not to mention covering the spread. This could go either way. Forced to make a choice, Browns have risen to the occasion time and time again this season, so we're taking a chance on them.

Free NFL Pick: Browns +2.5

Saints +4.0 vs. Steelers -4.0
Saints are behind a three-game losing streak. They've struggled on the road this season with a 1-4 SU record and 2-3 ATS record. Overall, they are 5-10 ATS on the road since 2013, which is incidentally one of the worst road records against the spread in the league. Steelers, meanwhile, are 4-1 SU at home and are enjoying a three-game winning streak at home, a span of form that has seen them outscore opponents by an average 14.6-point margin. Take the Steelers on your NFL picks.

Free NFL Pick: Steelers -4.0

Giants -2.5 vs. Jaguars +2.5
Finally a game the Giants can win and cover this season. Giants have lost six in a row, but some of those losses were close calls. Jaguars are one-hit wonders this season behind a 1-10 SU mark and 1-3 ATS record at home, which includes a 7.8-point margin of defeat. Surely, Eli Manning and the Giants can handle a 2.5-point spread against a team that can't seem to buy a win no matter how hard it tries?

Free NFL Pick: Giants -2.5

Raiders +7.0 vs. Rams -7.0
This is another tough call on the NFL betting floor. Raiders are after their first win of the season, first in 16 straight games spanning two seasons, after beating the Chiefs 24-20 in Thursday Night primetime football betting. Rams slipped to a disheartening 27-24 loss to the Chargers. That said Rams have won their last two games at home against the Seahawks and Niners, all while covering as the hefty home pups. This is the first time the Rams are matched as the favourites across sports betting exchanges so it remains to be seen how they'll handle the pressure. The Raiders have nothing to lose. They are 1-10 SU this season and 4-1  ATS on the road. They covered three of their last four games, two straight ahead of week 13 NFL betting, both of which were set to 7-points or higher.

Free NFL Pick: Raiders +7.0

Chargers +5.5 vs. Ravens -5.5
Ravens are after a pivotal win against New Orleans at the Superdome, a 34-27 win which saw them cash as the 3-point underdogs. Overall, they are 7-4 SU and 6-4-1 ATS with a 7.9-point margin of victory. Home form reveals a 4-1 SU and ATS record which includes a 15.4-point margin of victory. Chargers, meanwhile, are 7-4 SU on the road, but they have yet to beat a quality team since beating Seattle in week 2. Indeed, they 3-3 SU in their last six games and they've failed to cover each and every single one. Ravens at home have to be the smart NFL pick at 5.5-points.

Free NFL Pick: Ravens -5.5

Titans +6.5 vs. Texans -6.5
Texans (5-6 SU) were dealt with a tough schedule this season. Seven of their last eight games were against teams that are above the .500 mark, but they emerge with a modest 3-5 SU record during that stretch. Not to mention, two of the four defeats against quality opponents were close  – 20-17 loss to Dallas in overtime and 33-28 loss to the Colts. Texans are 5-6 SU, second in the AFC South behind Indianapolis. They beat the Titans 30-16  in week 8 NFL betting. They have home advantage for their second meeting of the season. Having said that they lost Ryan Mallet to injury, thrusting their QB situation into question. Titans played well with Zach Mettenberger calling the shots when they hosted the Steelers in week 11. On the road, Mettenbeger and the Titans were blown off the field in Philadelphia in week 12. This is a right tossup on the NFL odds board. Forced to make a choice, we're backing the Texans at home with J.J. Watt terrorising the rookie quarterback.

Free NFL Pick: Texans -6.5

Redskins +10.0 vs. Colts -10.0
Indianapolis Colts beat up on subpar opposition, nowhere more so than at home. Redskins are a complete mess from top to bottom, wholly off form and off colour. They might have scored an improbable cover in San Francisco last weekend, but that's not about to happen here. Shade the Colts on your NFL picks.

Free NFL Pick: Colts -10.0

Cardinals -2.5 vs. Falcons +2.5
Arizona Cardinals slipped to a tough 14-6 defeat to the Seattle Seahawks in week 12 NFL betting. Drew Stanton was reduced to a pedestrian quarterback and the entire Cardinals corps was roughed up badly, so say the critics. One could hit the panic button, start predicting gloom and doom for the Cardinals. Fact is they are still 9-2 SU on the season and 8-3 ATS. Still ahead of the AFC playoff chasing pack. On the bright side, they have an opportunity to bounce back in week 13 NFL betting and put paid on their critics. Falcons leave a lot to be desired this season. And while they are still in play in a lightweight NFC South, it doesn't change the fact they are a 4-7 SU team, 2-3 SU at home, boastting a stuttering offense and tired defense. Cardinals should ride roughshod over the Falcons and cover the 2.5-point spread. By the numbers, they are still one of the best teams in the NFL.

Free NFL Pick: Cardinals -2.5

Patriots +3.0 vs. Packers -3.0
New England Patriots are riding the longest winning streak in the league, seven in a row including statement wins over the Bengals Broncos, Colts and Lions. Patriots have covered six of their last seven games, four in a row. More crucially, they are a perfect 4-0 ATS as the underdog this season, twice on the road as the 1-point road underdogs in Buffalo and the 3-point road underdogs in Indianapolis. Those are compelling stats that can't be ignored, even against a Packers side that is 5-0 SU at home and 4-0-1 ATS with a hefty 26.8-point margin of victory. Packers are one of the forces of the league at home; unbeatable and offensively overwhelming, the Packers cut a fine figure as the 3-point home favourites. However, this is the first time they come up against an offense that is comparable by the numbers. Indeed, very little separates these two outfits, prompting the idea this game could go either way. How do you pick against a team that is on a roll and a team that is nigh unbeatable at home. Flip a coin.

Free NFL Pick: Patriots +3.0

Broncos -1.0 vs. Chiefs +1.0
This is going to be the second marquee game on week 13's NFL betting schedule, after the Packers and Patriots. Broncos are after a crucial win over the Dolphins that kept their title defense campaign in tact in the AFC West division. They failed to cover however in the 39-36 loss, marking their second straight loss against the spread in as many weeks. Last season, the Broncos swept the series with the Chiefs winning 27-17 at Kansas and 35-28 at home. This season, the Broncos beat the Chiefs 24-17 at Mile High. Chiefs are looking to bounce back after a shocking upset to the Raiders, it was their first SU and ATS loss in their last five games. This game could go either way with the division title hanging in the balance. Arrowhead is a tough place to win in by any team, including the Broncos. But we're hanging our hat on Peyton Manning and his undeniable quality.

Free NFL Pick: Broncos -1.0

Dolphins -5.5 vs. Jets +5.5
Dolphins are after a heartbreaking 39-36 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday. In spite of the defeat, the Dolphins covered as the 7-point road underdogs, marking their second straight cover in as many weeks. Overall, they are 7-4 ATS this season with a 6-point margin of victory and 3-2 ATS on the road with a 0.2-point margin of victory. As well as rising to heavyweight opponents with wins over the Patriots and a narrow loss to Denver, the Dolphins have beat up on underachieving teams. Jets are after an abysmal 38-3 loss to the Bills. What's more, their quarterback position is back up in the air with Vick injured and ineffective Geno Smith their likeliest option this Sunday.

Free NFL Pick: Dolphins -5.5 at BookMaker
