The Cardinals are dangerously close to falling out of playoff contention. Now they face the Jets, in a critical game to avoid a 2-4 start and get back to .500. How should we bet the NFL Odds in this one?

 Carson Palmer back in action

After missing the short week on Week 5 for the Cardinals’ win over the 49ers, it looks as if Carson Palmer will be back under center for this team. He has gone through practice this week, so all signs point to his return.

With that in mind, as well as the fact that the Cardinals are coming off long rest, the NFL Odds for this one are somewhat intriguing. As is the movement we have seen in some of these NFL Odds.

After opening at -6 ½, the line has shot up to -7 ½ already at almost all sportsbooks, with some like Bovada hanging a number like -8. Even 5Dimes has the line at -8 ½ (+105) in favor of the Cardinals.

However, while most shops still have the -7 ½ number, the best move for this one in regards to a spread play is to lay the points. The Jets’ secondary is a mess and with a talent like David Johnson to keep track of, the Jets’ won’t be able to provide a lot of help for their defensive backs in this one.

That could lead to a lot of short passes and run plays from Johnson. That will lead to big scoring plays from Jon Brown and Larry Fitzgerald. The Jets’ passing defense has been one of the worst in the league so far. They have already given up a dozen touchdowns and over 1500 yards per game through the air. On the road last week they let Ben Roethlisberger throw for 380 yards and four touchdowns.

The Sharp Pick

However, the problem with laying the points with the Cardinals right now is their NFL Odds. At -7 ½, it’s a tricky number to trust with that half point sticking on to it. Most sportsbooks will let you buy half and a full point, which is what I’m recommending you do before laying the points here.

For instance, at BetOnline the Cardinals are -7 ½ (-110), but moving the NFL odds down to -7 would only cost you (-120). That loss of $10 per every $100 you bet may seem like a lot, but it’s a lot more costly to the sportsbook. Now you can push if the Cardinals only win by seven points and it allows you to get the number down to an obviously more football number. With that in mind, go out there and win all your NFL Picks this week, including this one!
