Since 2016 is ending on a crazy note, why not double down to start the New Year? There’s tons of early activity on the Week 17 NFL odds board – especially in D.C.

We’re almost done, folks. One more week to go in 2016, and one more week to go in the 2016 NFL regular season. Everything seems to have gone pear-shaped on both fronts, but let’s take a moment to focus on the things that matter most: our health and our loved ones. Most of us are better off now than we were at this time last year. Let’s keep that train rolling, shall we?

Even the vast majority of NFL quarterbacks still have two working legs to stand on. Week 16 was a doozy – chaos, broken limbs, the Cleveland Browns winning a game – and Week 17 promises to be even wackier, if not as violent. But the sharps aren’t afraid to take that annual polar bear dip. They’re pounding several of the matchups on the NFL odds board, including Sunday’s critical NFC East tilt (4:25 p.m. ET, FOX) between Washington and the New York Giants. Washington opened on Christmas Day as 5-point home faves and steamed all the way to –8 in early betting. Ho ho ho!

Blue Christmas

That’ll happen when only one of the two teams has anything to play for. The Giants (10-5 SU, 8-6-1 ATS) had yet to clinch a playoff spot heading into Saturday’s action, although they were virtually assured of a Wild Card berth despite losing to the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday. And so it came to pass; the G-Men were locked into the No. 5 seed when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost to the New Orleans Saints.

Which makes Sunday’s game essentially pointless for Big Blue. Washington (8-6-1 SU, 10-5 ATS), on the other hand, need at least a tie against New York, plus some outside help. It’s a dream scenario for the sharps. Not everyone in the betting market will be aware of this dynamic – the Giants might not even play QB Eli Manning in Week 17, even though he’s on a streak of 209 consecutive starts, including the postseason.

But is it already too late to add Washington to our NFL picks? They’ve already steamed past the magic number 7. We could bail and take the UNDER instead on what should be a rainy day in D.C., but let’s stick with the home faves. The Giants will almost certainly phone this one in, perhaps while singing Auld Lang Syne.
