Week 9 of the season has arrived and Swinging Johnson is locked on with three plays this coming weekend that will bring you profit. Let’s review the NFL odds and see what he has in store for us.

Swinger’s Overall 2016 NFL Record: 18-17 (after Week 8)

Last week we went 1-2 in this column but scored a winner with Green Bay as an underdog over the Falcons in a stand-alone article I wrote. So, the overall tally for last week (2-2 ATS) pretty much reflects my season record at 18-17 ATS. Unlike some handicappers, I am not going to grouse about the bad beats or the terrible calls. It eventually all evens out so you have to look yourself in the mirror and work even harder. Let’s get after these games in Week 9 and make the second half of the season a winning one!

N.Y. Jets vs Miami Dolphins

I am ecstatic that the Dolphins’ running back Jay Ajayi is being lauded as the next Mercury Morris. He has been a game breaker to be sure with consecutive 200 yard rushing performances. But now he faces the stingiest run-stop unit in the league as the Jets are allowing only 3.3 yards per carry. Trust me when I tell you, that streak stops on Sunday.

The Jets meanwhile have Ryan Fitzpatrick back under center and he actually looked decent in the second half of New York’s victory over the Browns. Jets’ receivers Brandon Marshall and Quincy Enunwa should get open with relative ease against the suspect linebacking and secondary units of the Dolphins. Matt Forte is beginning to catch fire for the Jets and this looks like a case of the wrong favorite despite the Miami venue.

The Jets are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 vs. AFC East

The Jets are 8-3-2 ATS in their last 13 games following an ATS win.

The Dolphins are 4-11 ATS in their last 15 home games

The Dolphins are 5-16 ATS vs. teams with a losing record

The Dolphins are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 vs. the AFC East.

New Orleans Saints vs San Francisco 49ers

Laying points on the road is the hallmark of a certified square but you can call me whatever you like as long as you’re paying me. New Orleans should light up the woeful Niners here as their man under center is looking like vintage Drew Brees and the Saints have won three of their last four games because of it. San Francisco generates no pass rush to speak of which means Brees will have all day to target his corps of receivers.

On the flipside, Colin Kaepernick looks spent. There will not a Lazarus like reawakening as defenses have figured him out and he can no longer roam as he once did. I just don’t see how the 49’ers keep pace with the Saints aerial blitzkrieg. Plus, they’re terrible at stopping the rush in case the Saints want to switch gears. Lay it and like it.

Free NFL Pick: New Orleans -3 (-120)

Indianapolis Colts vs Green Bay Packers

Yes, the Colts have bitten me this season, as recently as last week when they fell to the Chiefs. But guys and girls the Packers cannot stop anyone and Andrew Luck is getting marginally better as the season progresses. If T.Y. Hilton is healthy and ready to rock then there will be touchdowns scored on this pedestrian Green Bay secondary. The Colts are simply getting too many points to ignore them and I will once again cast my lot with Indianapolis.

The Woodman’s Corner (3-5 ATS)

The Woodman is having an uncharacteristically subpar season which gives us hope that his handicapping prowess will return to the mean and bring us a bounty of riches. Last week he decided that the Eagles getting the points over Dallas was his key to financial freedom but alas, Philadelphia dropped a 29-23 decision - in overtime no less! The NFL odds makers only gave the Eagles a 4 ½ point head start and that was just not enough. Ugh!

This week he is backing a favorite in his NFL Picks, which is a marked departure for this dog loving capper (both figuratively and literally). The Minnesota Vikings will rebound in Week 9, so sayeth the Woodman.
