Week 6 of the NFL season is upon us and Swinger has locked on to three stellar opportunities in his NFL picks. Let’s take a look at these matchups and cash those tickets.

Swinger’s Overall 2016 NFL Record: 13-12 (after Week 5)

Each and every week I highlight my top NFL picks in this article and reiterate those in my weekly podcast with Jordan Sharp. I also write one or two, maybe more, stand-alone articles that are also incorporated into my overall record. Last week I went a disastrous 0-3 in this column and then proceeded to go 2-0 in my pair of stand-alone articles with the Bucs as a six-point underdog that won outright over the Panthers, as well as taking under 46 in that Monday night affair which also clicked in Tampa Bay’s 17-14 victory.

But that is of little consolation to those who read this column religiously and hope to beat the NFL odds makers on a weekly basis. To rehash, we dropped (notice the use of the plural – you think I’m gonna go this alone?) under 43 in the Titans/Dolphins game (30-17), Jets +7 ½ (Pitt 31-13) and Bears +5 (Indy 29-23). In short, it was a brutal Sunday but we don’t run and hide when we lose nor do we gloat when we win. We are nothing if not transparent and that my friends, is a hard commodity to come by in this industry. Keep the faith.

Carolina Panthers vs New Orleans Saints

Gather ‘round all you chalk eaters because SJ is pullin’ up a chair at your large square table. Cam Newton is back and so is Jonathan Stewart. If the Super Bowl runner-up Panthers have any hope of contending again they will have to destroy their divisional rivals and go on a tear.

Carolina is a shocking 1-4 this season but have their superman savior back in the fold, and after watching reams of game tape, last season’s MVP will be ready to rip on the worst (ranked 32nd allowing 32.5 PPG) defense in the league. Of course Drew Brees can put up numbers but the Panthers have a stronger defensive unit (22nd allowing 27 PPG) that will only improve as the season progresses. Baby steps begin in the Big Easy.

Kansas City Chiefs vs Oakland Raiders

Consider for a moment that three of the last four games played between these AFC West rivals have gone over the posted total. Consider also that those games went over when Kansas City boasted the 2nd ranked and 3rd ranked defense in terms of points scored in 2014 and 2015 respectively. The departures of Justin Houston and Sean Smith have contributed mightily to the Chief’s defensive malaise, currently ranked 17th in points scored, allowing 23 points per game. The Raiders are even worse and own a defense that ranks 24th allowing 27.4 PPG.

So we have two lower echelon defenses with one dynamic Raiders offense. The Chiefs average almost 21 points per game but against the porous Silver & Black, they should up that number considerably. The total may be high but it would be even higher if the betting public wasn’t still convinced Arrowhead is the death knell for teams due to the fierce KC defense. Both those premises are no longer true which is why we love squares who push numbers where we need them to be. Get high my friends.

San Francisco 49ers vs Buffalo Bills

Colin Kaepernick is slated to get the start for the Niners this week so perhaps we should all take a knee and contemplate that for a moment. San Francisco has been predictably lousy after shutting out the Rams 28-0 in the opening week. However, if you look at whom they have played you will find Carolina, Seattle, Dallas and Arizona. Three of four teams that are better than what they have demonstrated thus far and squads built to beat up on the weak sisters of the league.

Then we have Sexy Rexy’s Buffalo Bills. Their claim to fame is having derailed the Patriots Express in a week where New England had to go with an ailing third-string rookie QB. The Bills will also be looking ahead to a divisional tilt with the Dolphins next week so let’s watch a 49’ers squad rally around the Commie and cover the number.

The Woodman’s Corner (2-3 ATS)

The Woodman cashed with the Bolts last week as they narrowly covered the number in a 34-31 loss to the Raiders. This week he looks to pull even at .500 with a wager on Atlanta to hang tough in Seattle. The sage on the mountaintop has spoken. Fly like a Falcon.
