Swinger’s Overall 2016 NFL Record: 20-18-1 (after Week 8)

We had a decent run in last week’s Swinger’s picks with the New Orleans Saints easily covering the spread in their road tilt against the 49’ers. We also cashed with a big underdog in Indianapolis that not only covered the number but won the game outright with a 31-26 victory over the Packers in Green Bay. Our third pick of the day was the New York Jets and because we copped a good line early in the week, we pushed the game instead of anguishing over a narrow miss when they dropped a 27-23 contest but as four-point road pups.

In our stand-alone article, we lost when the Titans failed to cover, despite a five-point head start, against the Chargers when they lost 43-35. Let’s continue to put some distance between us and a .500 record with my NFL picks for Week 10. It’s time to make a push so we have a healthy bankroll heading into the postseason. Let’s go!

Los Angeles Rams vs N.Y. Jets

The NFL odds makers have the wrong favorites here boys and girls. That’s right, the Rams are going to roll – okay, maybe not roll but they’ll win – and the reason is simple. The Jets have no offense to speak of and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick’s status is uncertain therefore the immortal Bryce Perry may be under center. Though Fitzpatrick hasn’t set the world on fire I will say that if a veteran QB worthy, or unworthy, of a $12 million one-year deal can’t get this offense to budge than how will a second-year man with no experience do so?

I hear what you’re thinking – because people talk to me with their minds as I’ve been telling my shrink – the Rams can’t generate any offense either so it’s a jump ball in that regard, right? Well, almost but the Jets offensive line is damaged and can’t protect. Meanwhile, the Rams defense is stout and will wreak havoc on their untested man under center. The offense with the best-starting field position will win this one and that’s why LA prevails.

This will also be an under play for me as well so we’ve got two for the price of one. The small head starts the Rams are getting will not matter but like a chocolate cookie, you might as well take a bite just in case.

Chicago Bears vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Jay Cutler looked like the Jay Cutler of old in his last performance against the vaunted Vikings’ defense. Cutler returned after a five-game absence to toss for 252 yards and a touchdown against one of the most physical defenses in the league. This time around he will be facing a Bucs D that is among the very worst in terms of points allowed (29 PPG, ranked 29th) and should have an easy time of it.

Factor in that the Bears are coming off their bye week and will be well rested, allowing Cutler even more time to get healthy In addition, Tampa Bay’s QB Jameis Winston is gimpy after being injured (knee) in last week’s loss to the Falcons. Trend-wise, the road team has covered the number in five of their last six meetings. Bears big here.

The Woodman’s Corner (3-6 ATS)

Though you may look at the Woodman’s record this season in utter disgust, I suggest you review his record last season when he was absolutely unconscious and covered the number at almost 70 percent. Absurd, right? Well, he is having an off year but fade him at your own peril. We don’t keep him around because he’s dashingly handsome, although that helps, we keep him here because he can go on a heater at any moment. Around this time he goes into hibernation and will be unconscious yet again because he is a strange, peculiar man but that’s what we’ve been waiting for dammit!

The Woodman says the “If the Boys wanna fight you better let’em.” That’s code for bet the farm on the Dallas Cowboys!
