Biggest Movers and Shakers

The New England Patriots (5-1 SU) are currently the short-odds on faves to win Super Bowl LI. Talk about sticking it to Roger Goodell. Following the win over the Cincinnati Bengals in week 6 they Patriots improved from +400 to +300 at bet365. If they continue on this verve and swagger they’re sure to emerge as the most popular NFL pock in futures markets this season.

Joining the Patriots at the top of the contenders pile are the Seattle Seahawks and Minnesota Vikings, the latter of which didn’t even touch a pigskin in week 6 on account of having a bye week. One could argue the Vikings (6-0SU)  improve on the NFL odds board largely down to the failings of previously fancied Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers, both falling for various reasons out of favour at this juncture. Then again that would be a slight injustice to the only team that remains undefeated. Seahawks improve from +800 to +600 while the Vikings improve from +800 to +750 with bet265.

Elsewhere, the Cowboys leap up the board to +1200 behind a five-game winning streak, the longest active run of positive form ahead of week 7 NFL betting. Also improving in market estimation are the Buffalo Bills and Washington Redskins, both of which sport four-game winning streaks.

 Down But Not Out

Speaking of the Packers and Steelers, they’re down on the Super Bowl LI odds board to +1100 but they’re far from out of it. The Packers fell out of favour when they lost to the Cowboys at Lambeau on Sunday, an outcome that few predicted on their week 7 NFL picks. As well, the Steelers fall out of favour behind the news of Big Ben’s injury. Everything hinges on when their precious quarterback returns to the fold.

The Bengals, Eagles, Colts and Ravens all suffered setbacks in week 6 that impact their Super Bowl LI odds. Given the quality of the quarterbacks contained in this mix and the sum total of these teams they might be down but few NFL bettors would be surprised if they turned things around. As such, they are still technically viable NFL picks to consider and at these prices they could prove profitable should they really make a run for it. A lot would have to go their way though in the next few weeks so it bears thinking about.

The No-Hopers

Leading the no-hopers are the Cleveland Browns (0-6SU). It’s safe to assume their season is done and done and it’s a matter of when not if their Super Bowl LI odds come off the board. San Francisco 49ers (+100000) are also effectively out of the running, their swelling odds just a mere formality rather than symbolism. With a 1-5 SU record the Niners would have to reel off ten straight wins down the stretch to potentially get back into the thick of the playoff race. Granted the Chiefs did it last season but the chance the Niners would do it with their current squad is a long shot. Finally, the Chicago Bears (1-5 SU) round out this group despite being served up on much shorter +40000 future odds or thereabouts depending on your choice sportsbook.
