Preseason week 3 NFL betting is almost in the books and we return with our weekly recap of the NFL betting action. Find out how each team performed and where the value NFL picks were to be had.

Preseason NFL Week 3
Although two games remain to be decided, we can already see that it was a big week for the road teams through the first 14 games (See Table 1). It also reveals underdogs outplaying the favorites against the spread which is the first time in the preseason. Of course, with two games left: Texans vs. Saints and Cardinals vs. Raiders the balance could yet tip either way.

Up to this point, it’s been one-way traffic mostly with home teams delivering on NFL betting expectations as the clear-cut favorites on NFL odds board. Home teams edged road teams 21-10-0 SU combined and 19-12-0 ATS, while the OVER-UNDER went 17-14-0 through two weeks of mostly backups slugging it out on the field. Is it any wonder that few surprises were to be had?

Week 3 of the Preseason saw more action from the starters than in previous games. That probably played a hand in some of the results served up, especially where road teams came through. Home teams went just 5-9-0 SU and ATS against road teams, while favorites were edged by underdogs 6-8-0 ATS after settling on a 7-7-0 SU mark. The OVER-UNDER went 6-8-0.

The end result through three weeks of preseason NFL betting is a balanced outcome overall against the NFL odds. Have a look at Table 1 and see for yourself.

How Did We Do With Our Game-by-Game NFL Picks?
It’s our best preseason week, yet. We went 10-4-0 ATS and OVER-UNDER to improve our overall record to 26-18-2 ATS and 27-19-0 OVER-UNDER. A commendable result despite all the nervy NFL line movements in the lead up to the weekend’s NFL slate.

Week 3 NFL Betting Takeaways
Washington Redskins continue their winning ways without RGIII as they clinch their third win of the preseason behind a 31-13 win over the Ravens on the road. RGIII Who? Redskins pulled off the feat as the 3.5-point (closing odds) road underdogs. Elsewhere, Philadelphia Eagles are also off to a flying start with a spectacular 39-26 win at Lambeau. Although NFL betting markets opened with the Packers as the 3-point faves, odds makers quickly neutralised the line to EVEN odds before it was bet up to 6-points with the Eagles closing as the favorites. Finally, Minnesota Vikings, closing as the 3-point underdogs, continue their preseason winning form with a significant 28-14 win over the Cowboys to improve to 4-0 SU.

Over in the AFC, only the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs are undefeated through three rounds of preseason betting. Broncos (-6.5 at closing) edged the Niners in a 19-12 win at Mile High, while the Chiefs (-5.5) shattered the Titans in a 34-10 win at Arrowhead.

Defending champions New England Patriots clinched a second straight win in the preseason with a 17-16 win over the Panthers while the Buffalo Bills ran riot over the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 43-19 win that saw them alone crack the total of 40 total. Incidentally, the total opened at 42.5 but was pushed down to 40 by closing doors. So much for the notion that the Bills are just a one-dimensional, defensive-minded team.

In other news, Colts win their first preseason game by defeating the Rams 24-14 on the road as the 2-point underdogs while the Browns crush the Buccaneers 31-7 to earn their first win of the preseason, all while covering handily as the 2.5-point underdogs.

So there you have it, a recap of some of the weekend’s highlights. Preseason week 4 is fast approaching and then, well, the real deal kicks off! Be sure to keep checking in with us for all your NFL betting thrills and picks.
