How hot are the Oakland Raiders right now? They're the public darlings on the Week 8 NFL odds board, but the sharps love themselves some of that O-Town action, too.

Record: 14-10-1 ATS, 4-7 Totals

Life is full of contradictions. Growth, or security? Eye for an eye, or turn the other cheek? Early bird, or look before you leap? You can lose your mind trying to sort out these dialectics. You can also end up second-guessing yourself a lot. This past Tuesday, we pegged the Oakland Raiders as the public team for Sunday's game (1:00 p.m. ET, CBS) with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and that's probably still the case – but the sharps are on Oakland's side, too. Our expanded consensus report shows 98 percent of the action landing on the Raiders (PK away), for an average bet size of $539. Steamy~!

Here's another late October surprise: The Cleveland Browns are starting Josh McCown this Sunday (1:00 p.m. ET, CBS) against the New York Jets. That wasn't supposed to happen. We recommended the Jets as 2.5-point road faves on the NFL odds board, thinking that either Kevin Hogan or Cody Kessler was going to start for Cleveland. Well, now the sharps are on the Browns; 68 percent of the money is on the home side as we go to press, from 49 percent of the betting population.

Big Josh
It's all good. A bet on the Raiders made perfect sense early in the week; Tampa Bay may have some value closer to kick-off if the public comes in and dumps more moolah on Oakland, but the lines haven't budged yet, even with all that sharp money on the Silver and Black.

And the Browns? Well, they're available at +3 now, and McCown is the one proven quarterback they have who can get the job done on a semi-regular basis, when healthy. If you haven't already added the Jets to your Week 8 NFL picks, give Cleveland some consideration instead – and wait to see if you can get the Browns at +3.5 before game time.

Here's one more sharp pick to consider: the Houston Texans. Our reports show the Texans pulling in 95 percent of the monies wagered for Sunday's matchup (1:00 p.m. ET, FOX) with the Detroit Lions, who are getting 2.5 points on the road. The average bet on Houston is $405, second only to Oakland this week. And that's with only 47 percent of bettors on the Texans. Not a super-contrarian pick, but the value's still on Houston at these odds.
