The Chargers travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons The situation, combined with a strong set of technicals, qualifies San Diego as our Underdog NFL Pick of the week.

  Chargers vs. Falcons

Remember last year? The Falcons started 5-0 SU, 4-0 ATS before reeling off a record of 1-7 SU, 0-9 ATS. They appear to be a much more solid team this year, with the league’s best offense averaging 33/442. Could the memory of last year be a subconscious influence, after the Falcons suffered a tough defeat at the hands of Seattle last week? That was a game in which the Falcons trailed 17-3 at the half. It appeared that they had run out of gas, playing their 4th game in 5 weeks on the road, coming off 4 consecutive upset wins, the last 2 of which were against last year’s Super Bowl participants, Carolina and Denver. But, there they were in the 3rd quarter against a defense that is arguably been the NFL’s best in the last 4 years (at what is widely considered to be the NFL’s toughest venue).

Falcons scored 3 times in the 3rd for a 24-17 lead. To the surprise of few viewers and with the aid of a botched call by an official, Seattle escaped with a 26-24 win, snapping the Falcons’ 4-game win streak. Today, they return home on a shorter week of rest following a more difficult travel schedule. It is well noted that teams in the role of home chalk cover just 33% of the time after facing Seattle. In addition, 2nd year HC Quinn is authoring an incredible underdog pattern. The dog has now covered 9 consecutive times in Atlanta games, covering the number by an amazing 103 points. With HC Quinn just 1-9 ATS as favorite in his NFL career, there is further reason to believe this will be a highly competitive game.

At 2-4 SU, the Chargers have been in every game. Their 4 losses have been by 3, 1, 4 and 6 (in OT) points. IN each of those games, they blew 4thquarter leads. Yet, the history they are writing is undeniable. The Chargers are 21-9 ATS as road dog and the road team has covered 14 of 18 recent San Diego games. It all fits with the Atlanta patterns.

In a game where QB Rivers and QB Ryan could be firing bullets to the final whistle, there is no doubt in my mind that the San Diego Chargers are the UNDERDOG OF THE DAY. I invite you to put the NFL ODDS in your favor and join me in my NFL PICK on the San Diego Chargers today.
