Swinger is back with three totally sharp selections as he looks to bury the bookmakers with his Week 14 NFL picks. Let’s see what he’s got for us this week.

Swinger's Overall 2016 NFL Record: 27-23-1 ATS

I broke my golden rule of never betting for or against the New England Patriots and it came back to bite me. I believed the 14 ½-point head start that the Rams were getting would be sufficient to hang and bang with the beat-up Pats. But I was wrong as New England eked out a cover over LA to the tune of 26-10.

Fortunately, that was my only loss on a day that saw me go 2-1 against the number that the NFL odds makers were dealing. Our winners included the underdog Lions winning outright over the Saints and the Steelers as six-point home favorites dispatching the Giants 24-14. We’ll take it but now it’s time to move on to Week 14 and crush those books!

Pittsburgh Steelers vs Buffalo Bills

I am back on totals after taking a sabbatical last week and sticking strictly to sides. The Steelers will touch down in Buffalo where their defense will have to prepare for a new-look Buffalo aerial attack where star receiver Slammin’ Sammy Watkins and his counterpart Robert Woods will be together on the same field at the same time since Week 2.

The Steelers pass defense is ranked 19th in the league and that would normally suffice against a passing offense ranked dead last like the Bills. But hold your horses because Buffalo has their two lethal weapons back in their lineup which will also give Tyrod Taylor room to roam and leave Shady McCoy open as an outlet receiver. And by the way, the Bills boast the 9th ranked scoring attack, averaging 25.4 PPG so this is a team that can score.

Do we really have to talk about the best pass-catch combo in football? Roethlisberger-to-Brown is a nightmare for any secondary and the Bills are hurting in their defensive backfield. Oh, and did I forget one of the most dynamic rushers in the game in Le’Veon Bell? There will be plenty of points scored in this one so get high my friends.

Minnesota Vikings vs Jacksonville Jaguars

This game has low written all over it. I ask you, who scores in this one? We’ve got two subpar offenses against two tough defenses. Minnesota owns the 4th ranked passing defense complemented by the 4th ranked scoring defense. That said, the Jags are inept at all things offensive with the 22nd ranked passing attack, the 22nd ranked rushing attack and the 27th (18.7 PPG) scoring offense.

Now you may look at this and be concerned with the Jaguars defense. That would be a reasonable concern as they are ranked 26th (26.1 PPG) in the NFL if they weren’t facing an anemic Vikings offense which averages 19.4 points per game (26th). Minnesota has averaged a paltry 15.4 PPG over their last seven contests. Sam Bradford and Blake Bortles don’t scare me and I wouldn’t be surprised if these teams combined for no more than 30 points. Go low here.

New Orleans Saints vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Everybody loves the Bucs after reeling off four consecutive wins and watching the emergence of Jameison Winston as a legitimate passing threat. The Bucs second-year QB has tossed 14 TD passes to only four picks since Week 6 of their bye week. His receiver Mike Evans is having a breakout season with more receptions (76) in 12 games than he had in either of his other two previous years. The Saints don’t defend the pass well and as a matter of fact, they don’t do much of anything well on the defensive side of the ball.

However, the Saints can score and Drew Brees has a solid offensive line in front of him that will contain whatever pass rush the Bucs mount. Yes, the Tampa Bay defense has been excellent over their four-game winning streak but they rank just 15th in pass defense going against the New Orleans top offensive passing unit, averaging 319.4 yards per game. The total is high but it’s high for a reason. Don’t be afraid to go over because there’ll be plenty of scoring in the Bay on Sunday.

The Woodman's Corner (5-8 ATS)

Great minds were thinking alike last week when the Woodman, and your old buddy SJ, both backed the Detroit Lions in our NFL picks. The underdog Lions not only covered the six-point but won that game outright over the Saints, and did so down on the Bayou.

But that’s ancient history and in this “what have you done for me lately” kind of business, the Woodman is doing his level best to claw his way back to respectability. I’m not sure I’d put my money on a bad team but in this case, they’re both rotten, so I’ll give the Woodman a pass on his Pick of the Week that is the New York Jets on the road in San Francisco.
