The opening week of the NFL season is in the books but what transpired that may give us an edge in our NFL picks going forward?

AFC Preseason Week 1 Developments

AFC East

Buffalo Bills - Has the EJ Manuel era begun or will Kevin Kolb mentor the rookie into mediocrity?

Miami Dolphins - Right now the Dolphins are 1-1 and sitting in the middle of the pack at .500 which is pretty much where they'll be at the end of the season.

NE Patriots - No receivers?  No problem!  Tom Terrific didn't miss a beat without the best tight end tandem in history and surefire slot receiver Wes Welker off to Peyton Place.  The Pats QB eviscerated the Eagles secondary and newcomer LeGarrette Blount did his best Barry Sanders imitation with a, not this way - that way, scamper into the endzone.

NY Jets - Sanchez contributed his obligatory interception in the Jets opener while rival Geno Smith  injured his ankle.  But on the positive side, Sexxy Rexxy still looks terrific!

AFC North

Baltimore Ravens - The World Champs crushed the bumbling Bucs 44-16 and even the backups looked ready for primetime.

Cincinnati Bengals - Wideout Andrew Hawkins is in a cast but that's small stuff compared to AJ Green's gimpy knee.

Cleveland Browns - Starting guard Shawn Lauvao is expected to undergo surgery to his ankle which sets the stage for musical chairs on the Browns' offensive line.

Pittsburgh Steelers - Special teams gaffes, foolish penalties and sloppy play led to an 18-13 loss to the Giants.  It can only get better.

AFC South

Houston Texans - Why did the Texans take a receiver in the first-round when they've got one of the best in Andre Johnson?  DeAndre Hopkins showed you why with a circus catch TD in Houston's 27-13 win over Minnesota.

Indianapolis Colts - Was the Colts playoff appearance last year sheer luck?  We think it's because of Luck and he may take them even further this year.

Jacksonville Jaguars - Chad Henne moves ahead of Blaine Gabbert in the battle of the subpar quarterbacks.  In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king.

Tennessee Titans - If the Titans first preseason game told us anything perhaps it's that the revamped offensive line may now allow Chris Johnson to run like...Chris Johnson!  CJ exploded for a 58-yard TD jaunt in the Titans 22-21 loss to the Redskins.

AFC West

Denver Broncos - They managed a 10-6 victory over the 49'ers in their preseason opener but the offensive line looked shaky at best.  Starting left tackle Ryan Clady is still rehabbing a surgically repaired shoulder and starting right tackle Orlando Franklin is dealing with a hip injury.  Get well soon boys, Peyton is counting on it.

KC Chiefs - Andy Reid is now at the helm and Alex Smith is pulling the trigger which already makes the Chiefs a better team.  A 55-yard punt return and a 77-yard kickoff return also signals a rejuvenated special teams in Kansas City.

Oakland Raiders - Matt Flynn is the starter in Oakland but there are three others who are in a heated battle to be the number two man.  Raiders win their opener 19-17 over the Cowboys and former running back Taiwan Jones' conversion to cornerback looked promising after a solid effort.

San Diego Chargers - At least the Chargers fans won't have Norv Turner to kick around anymore...thank God!  Manti Te'o suffered a foot sprain and the backups looked woeful against the Seahawks in their 31-10 home loss.  However, the starters actually looked poised and ready for action.  Depth is a concern on this team but the first-stringers are definitely not.
